Guest LivingtheDream Report post Posted March 21, 2008 I know when he is gone that will give us 7 million to help fill in the blanks, but none the less, when he is gone. We are in trouble. It is one of those, you dont know what you have till its gone kinda things I think. He loss will be Huge for this team and organization. I think we saw a taste of this a few weeks ago and it was not a pretty picture. He cannot be replaced with one man. Not even close. The Wings need a Hank and Pavel of D to start developing NOW. Sure Kronner is playing well, but he isn't been close to the being able to fill the Nick sized hole we will have. I'm sure management knows this, but if they don't have this sorted out for the first time in over a decade we will finally see a team in rebuilding mode. Ugh! Yzerfan1999 81 Report post Posted March 21, 2008 A. In the rafters immediately if we win more than 1 more cup under his Captaincy, within 5 years (still maybe immediately) if not B. He has all the makings of a GM, maybe moreso than even Stevie C. He originally wanted to return to Sweden before his kids entered High School - They are already Americans and will graduate and most likely go to college here, so he will likely stay stateside and become a citizen eventually Eh, I don't think thats a fair assumption. Yzerman has already taken two Canadian GM positions and is the favourite for the job at the 2010 olympics, not to mention he is the VP of the Wings. What do you see in Lidstrom thus far that makes him more of a GM candidate then Yzerman is?
chrisdetroit 189 Report post Posted March 21, 2008 yea its goin to be fast but once hes gone i dont think we will be screwed because we arnt losing any other superstar for many years....i think with that 7 million in cap we can go find a defensemen or 2 thats arnt to bad... Lids is irreplaceable. With all the money in the world, we couldn't find a replacement. We will survive, we just won't be as good on defense. It's that simple. We won't totally suck - we just won't be as good. Eventually Kronwall and Stuart (if he stays) will help fill the void until Ericsson and Meech are ready. But it's inevitable and at least we are deep in young D-men.
