miller76 463 Report post Posted April 2, 2008 A soar groin seems to be the injury plaguing everyone right now! I was just reading an article about Sundin, and more than likely he will be sitting out the rest of the season. Question 1: Has Sundin played his last game as a Leaf, or is management in Toronto going to try and sign him? Question 2: Is there any interest in Mats abilities/play in Detroit? Do we have a shot at him if so? Sorry to stir up the Sundin, Hossa, and whoever with cap space and all crap. But I would love to have another Swede on the team. Here's the link to the Sundin story: http://bleacherreport.com/articles/15688-N...e_Leafs_-010408
Rice 42 Report post Posted April 2, 2008 Reports say the Wings had a deal in place for Sundin that included a two-year extension -- so there is very likely interest on Detroit's part. Sundin will stay with the Leafs if they want him back. If they don't want him back, who knows? I'm sure the Wings would be in the running, but Mats might want to hang them up rather than play for another team. I think he'd be a great fit here.
awingsincebirth 0 Report post Posted April 2, 2008 For Mats, I'm pretty sure it'll be Toronto or retirement.
MacK_Attack 108 Report post Posted April 2, 2008 I can't imagine him playing anywhere but Toronto. He'll re-sign or retire.
Guest Hank=FutureCaptain Report post Posted April 2, 2008 (edited) -edit- oops I read that wrong. Hense my reply to it was way off. haha Mats will definitely remain a Leaf. But he absolutely DOES deserve a nice respectable contract. Edited April 2, 2008 by Hank=FutureCaptain
miller76 463 Report post Posted April 2, 2008 I am definetly a fan of Mats, and a fan of loyalty by a professional superstar player in professional sports. But as that article said, "he doesn't owe leafs nation anything. This guy doesn't deserve 1 year contracts. He deserves much more from an organization. I wish he would sign with a team that knows what they have got. But at this point I just hope he stays in the NHL.

I hadn't previously known that he was wanting one year contracts. The writers of the stories written about him, make it out as if the Leafs have it that way. Kind of like their terms. arnoldbuck 0 Report post Posted April 2, 2008 Yeah, after not waving the no trade clause, there cant be anyway he would want to go anywhere else. I mean, hell, if he did sign somewhere else, holy crap, how would the fans of Toronto feel. While many might have liked him to be traded for prospects/drafts, etc. All had to admire him for his loyalty. But if he walked away for nothing this summer, ... well ... ouch. Reds4Life 51 Report post Posted April 2, 2008 I doubt it. But leaving team during season and signing with another in July are two different things.
GoalieManPat 1,007 Report post Posted April 2, 2008 Mats is like Yzerman was in Detroit. You just cant imagine him anyplace else than in Toronto. I see him taking retirement over going to a different team.
12Newf 0 Report post Posted April 2, 2008 he went on at length about how he wants to retire a leaf and how he spoke to borje salming about that and borje told him he has always regretted that he did not retire in toronto. i cannot imagine him anywhere else and like previously stated he definitely only wants one year contracts. i wouldnt be surprised if he retired this summer but if not he will be with the leafs because fletcher wants him back. although who knows? maybe the new gm wants nothing to do with him (this man would be an absolute idiot) and he just retires. MacK_Attack 108 Report post Posted April 2, 2008 I think Mats will play one more year, get 1,000 points as a Leaf and then he'll retire.
JayUp88 1 Report post Posted April 2, 2008 I think he'll be back next season as a leaf.
