Reds4Life 51 Report post Posted April 5, 2008 http://redwings.nhl.com/team/app/?service=...rticleid=359218 DETROIT — Saturday: Play in the NCAA hockey playoffs in Colorado. Wednesday: Get a call for an amateur tryout from the team he cheered for as a kid. Thursday: Make his NHL debut. Adding to an already hectic week for forward Justin Abdelkader, the Red Wings signed the 21-year-old Muskegon, Mich., native to a three-year contract through the 2009-10 season on Friday afternoon. He was Detroit’s second-round selection (42nd overall) in the 2005 draft. “It’s really been a whirlwind,” said the former Michigan State Spartans. “It’s just been bam, bam. I’m here playing for the Wings. Last week if you would have told me this I would have said you were crazy.” Terms were not released, but the contract makes him eligible to play in Sunday's regular-season finale against Chicago as well as in the playoffs. Salviaman 104 Report post Posted April 5, 2008 Hell yeah!!! We need him now to replace Kopecky. He has a big body and from what I have seen he likes to use it and throw his weight around.
cirov19 1 Report post Posted April 5, 2008 (edited) Good stuff. I'm excited to see what this kid can do. Glad we have somebody representing MSU on here now. I can see him as turning into a key player on this team in the years to come. It helps he's dreamed about playing for the Wings his whole life. SetecX 139 Report post Posted April 5, 2008 Just curious, what does this cost the Wings in terms of dollars? Or is it some different type of contract?
Gizmo 21 Report post Posted April 5, 2008 Just curious, what does this cost the Wings in terms of dollars? Or is it some different type of contract? I recall reading on another thread that the league maximum for rookies is 850K, if true you can use that as a "worst case".
