Sick of the negativity...

“They who lack talent expect things to happen without effort. They ascribe failure to a lack of inspiration or ability, or to misfortune, rather than to insufficient application. At the core of every true talent there is an awareness of the difficulties inherent in any achievement, and the confidence that by persistence and patience something worthwhile will be realized. Thus talent is a species of vigor.

Honestly, what is with all the negativity around here? I'm just sick of it! Fire Holland, Fire Babcock, Wings suck, see you next year, we need a new captain, its Dom’s fault, its Lilja fault, what is Zetterberg doing? And the list goes on and on with these negative and pessimistic threads.

Everyone knew this would be a tough series. And if you thought the Wings would sweep Nashville, although I applaud your optimism, we knew it was very unlikely. We lose two games and the world is coming to an end. Two games!

Let’s not forget who the Detroit Red Wings are. They are the best team in the NHL. They have already outshined and outplayed the rest of the league in the marathon that is the regular season, now they must finish the sprint to the end. They have faced adversity before and have dealt with it and will continue to deal with it as it comes.

And who are we? We are the so-called fans of this great team. A fan is someone who is “marked by excessive enthusiasm and often intense uncritical devotion.” Let’s break that down. Excessive enthusiasm: we are beyond what is considered acceptable, proper, usual, or necessary. We are crazy in the eyes of others because we yell and have passion for a team; we paint our faces and wear their jerseys. We have an excited and engrossing interest in the team. We are glued to the TV. We go to games. The team consumes us during game-time throughout the year. Uncritical devotion: We should be accepting and approve the team without analyzing or questioning it or discriminating between good and bad. We should have a committed love for this team. We should be greatly dedicated and loyal. We should not be putting the team down and counting them out. Yes, players have off nights but others just need to pick up the slack. You win and you lose. This is all part of sports and part of being a fan. There is jubilation and adversity. It is part of life. Everything is not perfect. Let’s support this team rather than tear it down.

So I say to you Red Wing Fans, let us all think before we type. Let us cast the negativity and pessimism aside. Shame on you all who have torn this team down with the worthless nonsense that you spew in your negative threads. We will win this series and continue to fight to the end. Let’s all have “confidence that by persistence and patience something worthwhile will be realized.” And that something will be Lord Stanley’s Cup.

We are the Detroit Red Wings.

Impossible to win the victory, unless you dare to battle.

Si Vis Pacem, Para Bellum.

I agree fully, it's ridiculous the negativity that this board is shelled with on a nightly basis. There is nothing wrong with criticism at all. However, some of the people take it to a whole new level. People saying they are leaving because the Wings suck, stuff like that, it's absolutely retarded.

If you are a true fan you stick with your team through the struggles and victories. Gotta bleed red and white.

Go blow sunshine up somebody else's ass. If you can't criticize your own team then I label you an unpassionate fan. Or worse yet, a pure slappy who would rather choose blind homerism over objectivity.

"Uncritical devotion" That's about the stupidest ******* thing i've seen written on here in years.

The criticism goes way too far. A true fan DOES NOT jump on the back of their favorite teams' player because he's not scoring. They want him to score, but the insults and the bandwagoning is ridiculous.

It's as close to a fact as a subjective debate can be: Real fans don't bandwagon.

No we are not Detroit Red Wings. We are the fans of Detroit Red Wings.

If you think anyone here doesn't love Red Wings, you are mistaken. I know some of the stuffs said here recently are pretty ridiculous but I understand why people say it. They get so frustrated to see something they really don't like they are fed up with it. Also some people are harder to impress and some people want to see perfection. They have concerns about Red Wings which they think can be fixed and they want to share it among other red wings fan.

So for any of you to view that as pessimism, I would have to say you guys don't really know what people are really saying. I understand and I don't mind people are displeased about it, but please lay off on 'shame on you' stuff.

So true. There are many fookers who doubt the Wings, saying Wings have lack of heart/grit/leadership/bad coach yet they claim they are die hard fans.

If Wings swept Predators, all of them would be silent. We lost 2 games and look what happend. But they probably don't realize we have the same players all the time.

Constructive critism like *insert name* is on cold streak would be OK, but *insert name* sucks is low.

Pathetic really.

So pointing out flaws with your team means you are not a die hard fan? I don't think the pessimism is the problem, its the homerism.

Pointing out flaws is OK (I wrote it in my post too).

But you know, "Wings/*insretname* suck" is not pointing out a flaw.

meh, that sounds like a bunch of crap to me. i don't really see any difference between the haters and the slappys. neither shows enough intelligence to be objective in their thinking so i just simply ignore their posts. just by being here on a regular basis, i think we all have a committed love for this team. people just have their own way of showing it. there's no right way or wrong way to be a fan.

but, the quitters and fairweather fans are the ones who really bug me. win, lose, or draw, you should be committed to your team. but you don't necessarily always need to be happy with your team to be committed to it. again, there's no right way or wrong way to be a fan. simply put, there is no winning without losing. that's the nature of competition. obviously nobody likes to lose, but if you want to experience the sweet joy of victory you also need to be willing to taste the bitterness of defeat.

edit: spelling

Whoever started this thread would probably get rid of the 1st amendment, and make America a communist country.

Basically, you guys don't want anyone posting anything negative at all. How exciting would this site be then?

Some of you need to mature mentally, or go work for the FCC. This is ridiculous.

No one ever said that was pessimism, I think we all agree with that. Other things have been blown wayyy out of proportion.

HaHaHaHaHaHa

But yet you don't want them to be able to say that people shouldn't rip on their teams so much. It cracks me up that you claim that others are trying to get rid of your 1st Amendment right to free speech (which only applys to the government, not private citizens prohibiting speech) and you don't want then making this post.

I agree use of profanity isn't justified. Someone could with as much effort could use frack, and like inner changable words. Plus, taking the Lord's name in vein is the worst. If the Lord wants to damn someone he will do it himself. I understand people get heated, but you also have to understand that there are kids reading these forums.

Nice try. I'm probably one of the most conservative people on here FYI. I'm just saying that the over the top and constant complaining should be toned down a little bit. I don't care if you do it, there's just no need for it. The negative threads seemed to be the majority of threads there for a stretch of time and it was just stupid to read the same complaining game after game. If you want to vent then vent. Just don't say ridiculous and unwarranted stuff without presenting a coherent argument such as the Wings suck and Lidstrom shouldn't be the Captain. That's all.

The Lidstrom comment was ridiculous, as well as the Hasek death wishes, but if the Wings lose a game, and I come on LGW to see that no one is complaining about a playoff loss, I would think the world has turned upside down.

The point is, it's not surprising that it happens. People get really emotional about these games, and if they come here to vent about it, then that's expected.

Like I said, I'd be shocked if no one complained after games 3 and 4, or after last night's game went into OT. I guess the blind homers will just have to deal with it, instead of asking for people to mellow down, as if that's going to happen.

A lot of people don't know that it only applies to government. People all the time think that free speech means that they can say whatever whenever they want. I was merely stating that even if LGW's tells people what they can or cannot post it has nothing to do with 1st Amendment free speech.
