Question about Hasek

Rate this topic

Recommended Posts

I know Hasek's contract includes performance bonuses that if earned will count on our cap next year.

My question is: Does anyone know what exactly the requirements are?

This could mean a million dollars extra in cap space possibly so it is important.

Is it so many games played, games won, playoff rounds won etc...

If it is contingent on making the finals, does it count if he is riding the pine?

I cannot find any information on it right now, anyone remember the particulars?

I don't remember any particulars, but MLive says:

The Wings and goaltender Dominik Hasek have finally agreed to a one-year contract, his agent, Ritch Winter confirmed Thursday night. Winter said the deal is "in the $2 million range'' with a bonus structure valued at another $2 million, based on team playoff success.

I'll see if I can find something more specific.

I may be reading too much into it but if those words aren't accidental or coincidental, it seems "TEAM" success, not personal success, will determine the contract. Maybe there si some fine print stating he has to play in the majority of games or whatever.

It doesn't matter. We have plenty of cap space for the bonuses to be applied to the current season and not be carried over.

Exactly. The Wings had plenty of cap room even after the Trade Deadline and will be able to cover his bonus against this years cap as well as Cheli's $300,000 bonus. The only one this should upset is Illitch. :P
