Pavel Datsyuk missed practice Tuesday because of the flu, but he'll be on the ice today, coach Mike Babcock said. Brad Stuart returned home to San Jose to be with his wife, who was due to deliver today. Kirk Maltby (pulled hamstring) practiced, but said he's not sure if he'll be ready for the opener. Babcock, however, indicated that even if Maltby is ready he might not be inserted into the lineup. So rookie Darren Helm, who's played well the last two games, might remain in the lineup.

"I like our lineup, I'm not a big change guy,'' Babcock said

whew. good to hear Pavel is just a bit sick as we all know the flu has seemed to be going around the room, and hats off again to Stuart, playing like a warrior with an injuried right hand, i dunno that just really really impressed me and his game was good.

Stuart was going to try to go back to LA to see his wife between series which is probably why he wasn't at practice.

Babs said that Dats is sick not injured so maybe if they are telling the truth it won't be too bad and Dats will be well and ready to go for game 1.

"Pavel Datsyuk is sick, according to coach Mike Babcock. Brad Stuart went home to be with his wife for the birth of their second child. Neither player was on the ice for practice today.

Stuart's reason sounds like he'll be back and ready for Game 1, which will likely be on Thursday. Datsyuk's is more worrisome. He's a good bet to not miss any game action, but he's probably feeling the effects of being banged up.

'He's not one bit hurt,' said Babcock of Datsyuk. 'He came in today and Piet said, 'Go home.' ... He'll be ready to go.'"

Big thumbs up to Mrs. Stuart for some impeccable timing (induced or not)!

Maybe that's why they decided to get pregnant when they did. If they assumed Brad would still be playing for Los Angeles they knew it would be a safe bet that he'd only have adjust his golfing schedule rather than working it around the playoffs.
