He's among a handful of defensemen who have totaled 50+ points consecutively, and he had an amazing year defensively. Yeah he did. Im guessing he was Top 5. Id give Chara the #2 this year. He had more goals than lidstrom, which is a big number for defenceman. Calgary plays in a much tougher division. Calgary scored 226 goals while the wings 252. Phaneuf also has a much more dominate physical play, although it is easily arguable the lidstrom is better defensively. But I still think lidstrom wins by a landslide. Phaneuf is a great defenseman. In fact he could easily be the second best D-man in the league right now. Unfortunately for him, the gap between the #1 D-man and everyone else is phenomenally large. Opie 308 Report post Posted April 23, 2008 (edited) My problem with Chara is that he had a bunch of games where he was a no show. Not just offensively, there were times where his slapper seemed to be aimed at the side boards, and he has got to be the easiest d-man to undress. I think I saw too much of Chara to say that he is the #2 d-man in the league. Yes he had a great season, but Lids never seems to take a game off or have an off game.
