GMRwings1983 8,804 Report post Posted April 23, 2008 (edited) On your post about the "Denver Columnist bashes Detroit" post you stated that "Because of people like him, I hate people from Denver," I guess according to you that would make you a racist? Since you stated that "To me making statements against a particular nationality is not any more tolerant than making statements against someone's race. It can be a form of disguised racism." Does it have to be against another nation or is it enough to be against people from a different city? Nah, that's different. Picking on a city is not the same as picking on a race or a nationality. The latter is seen a lot more often and is a lot less acceptable, while the former is just my own thing, and is equivalent to people from Boston not liking New Yorkers. By the way, I'm flattered how you follow me around looking for ways to criticize my thinking. The previous poster actually called me a Liberal, which made me chuckle. You guys are really hooked on this Don Cherry, I can tell. Edited April 23, 2008 by GMRwings1983
Frozen-Man 144 Report post Posted April 23, 2008 (edited) Hey, I have an idea, ask Dats if he would mind people saying he is basically a Canadian, or Zetterberg. Lots of people have something called national pride, and for some of these guys winning a gold medal for their country would mean more than the cup. National pride is not just something Americans have, look at what used to be Czechoslovakia, ask a Czech if he minds if you call him a Slovak because they are basically the same. If you like the guy you like the guy, but don't come up with big words to hide the fact he is a racist, just in case you need to defend yourself to people calling you a racist because you like him, because any one that makes that correlation is someone you shouldn't care about. Because I think Chris Rock is funny and I love when he makes fun of white people that doesn't mean I hate whitey! Look no one is saying that Dats "would mind saying that he is basically a Canadian" but his problem would be with them getting his NATIONALITY wrong not his RACE. A perfect example is where you talk about asking a Czech if he minds being called a Slovak but again the question is not RACE it is NATIONALITY when Czechoslovakia was disolved by parliament and the its citizens became citizen's of either the Czech Republic and Slovakia their RACE did not change only their NATIONALITY did. Their race was what it was when they were a citizen of Czechoslovakia and did not change when they became a citizen of either the Czech Republic or Slovakia BUT their nationality did. If someone has a bias agaist Europeans (in favor of Canadians) that is not and cannot (based upon the definition of the word) be racisim, it can however be xenophobia which is fear or contempt for a foreign people. Finally, for the record I don't like Cherry, he yells too much and I disagree with most of his analysis. I how ever want you to know that I would never be so rude as to call you liberal (well without really good proof). Finally, I can't stand Cherry and change the channel or mute the TV when he is on. :noevil:

ben_usmc 253 Report post Posted April 24, 2008 (edited) Cherry is one dumb son of a *****, if he were a GM for the Leafs they would suck worse then they do now. He was on coachs corner the first time my roomate and I saw this ******, and he talked about how the Leafs need to start picking people up from Toronto because the kids of the city grow up and want to play for the team yet have their dreams crushed. So does that mean Detroit should only draft out of Detroit, or Tampa, or etc, I don't mind Cherry being loud and speaking his mind, if he had any basis behind his arguements, but he has the mind of a ******* redneck so...... sergei_is_still_a_wing 1 Report post Posted April 24, 2008 he can say/do just about anything as far as i'm concerned. i'll watch simply to see what suit he'll bring out next! pure comedy. as physical as other series? maybe not. but to say players avoided eachother is just plain wrong. when the euros with visors on the team are throwing shoulders, they aren't trying to dance around.
