Doggy 130 Report post Posted April 26, 2008 What a surprise coming from you. At least you finally called him Pavel. Yeah, head in the sand hey? Everyone else is stupid if they don't realise Datsyuk is the greatest at everything.

55fan 5,133 Report post Posted April 26, 2008 They're the Eurotwins: if one wins, they both win. I'm only partially kidding here. If one wins, he will be excited. If the other wins, he will be happy for him. Both are young enough that they know they will be nominated again in the future, and both are mature and classy enough that they know this. They are good enough friends that they will cheer for the other. This year, I give Dats the edge. Next year, who knows? I'd like to see both win at some point in their careers, preferrably more than once.

Guest LivingtheDream Report post Posted April 26, 2008 Maybe some here should go back and read the various posts stating with such "authority" and "knowledge" that neither Dats or Hank had a a chance of being nominated and that they just didn't embody the Selke blah blah blah. Learn from your errors people.
Shaman 713 Report post Posted April 26, 2008 I am hoping its Zetts, just because while dats had more take aways and thats awesome, I still think Z is the better on defense.
South Dakota wings fan 7 Report post Posted April 26, 2008 Although it would be pretty sick to see Datsyuk go home with the Byng, the Selke, the Conn Smythe, and the Cup. Is it wrong of me to think it would be better for Dats to win so Hank can't use the fact he won the Selke in contract negotiations? Does anyone else think Hank should sign either the same deal Pavel got or the 7 x 7 deal Spezza got?

Does anyone else think Hank should sign either the same deal Pavel got or the 7 x 7 deal Spezza got? Just because of inflation, Zetterberg's contract must be greater than Datsyuk's in per year terms. Add to that the salary cap balooning by 5-6 mil. next year, the fact that Datsyuk wasn't in top 5 scorers at the time like they both are now, and you have Zetterberg getting no less than $8-8.5 mil per. Anything less would be a hometown discount. ... I wonder, has anyone ever won the Lady Byng and the Selke in the same season before?
Nev 1,085 Report post Posted April 26, 2008 Except that would mean paying him more than Lidstrom. Its the Gretzky-in-Edmonton effect.
dicksmack 33 Report post Posted April 27, 2008 (edited) I love being right... But's great to see that he's getting the recognition he deserves... Some here said he had no business even being cosidered for the Selke. Edited April 27, 2008 by dicksmack
wingsgirl001 983 Report post Posted April 27, 2008 OMG Awesome!! I didn't think they'd BOTH get nominated! I don't care which one wins, as long as one of them does. Congrats to them both!

Anything less would be a hometown discount. I would agree about the hometown discount. Would Pavel's deal be considered a hometown discount? Obviously Buffalo is kicking themselves for not giving Briere the 5 x 5 deal that his camp proposed. I am not delusional enough to think every player SHOULD take a hometown discount because they truly play for the love of the game. It seems lately that the term and total dollars as well as the long term security has become just as important as the per year average. Let's not forget that Fill is an RFA after this season, and the Mule is an UFA next year along with Hank. It could get a little interesting.
BeeRYCE 2 Report post Posted April 27, 2008 Pavel's contract was made BEFORE he proved himself in the playoffs. If we would have gave him a contract after last year's playoffs, I'd say he'd be worth even more than what he got, so at this point, his contract is a discount seeing as he is one of the biggest threats in the league, but when he signed it, it was fitting.
