Dawgs 0 Report post Posted May 10, 2008 Plain and simple Mitch Albom is a tool. He doesnt even live in Detroit anymore, he lives in L.A. WTF does he know about anything Detroit.
zombiewing 3 Report post Posted May 10, 2008 Terry Foster wrote a nice retort to rich Mitch's banter: http://info.detnews.com/redesign/blogs/ter...cfm?blogid=1565 I agree with the previous posters that Mitch is out of touch. Gee, sorry if I do not make 7 figures. Sorry, I would write more, but I have to go to my 9 dollar an hour job that I am thankful to have. You lost my respect, mitch. move to LA you lying bastard... Probert 5 For Fighting 0 Report post Posted May 10, 2008 Don't read any crappy mainstream journalism anymore, but his thinking is right. Turning on the game to see scatters of empty seats right by the glass is embarrassing for Hockeytown. And don't complain too much about the economy - most Michiganders would rather ***** and moan and pay to watch the ******* Lions play in a 105% full stadium than to go root for the best-run team in professional sports. DYags 0 Report post Posted May 10, 2008 I understand everyone's issues with this article, but I do like the point that he made that the Lions games are always packed, why can't the wings games be? After it is all over with, you have to buy more beer to get through a Lions loss than a red wings win, so the price probalby comes out to be about equal even if the Lions' tickets are less expensive. First of all, awesome avatar! Secondly, the Lions play 8 home games a year with a MUCH larger fan base.. hardly comparable
Probert 5 For Fighting 0 Report post Posted May 10, 2008 (edited) First of all, awesome avatar! Secondly, the Lions play 8 home games a year with a MUCH larger fan base.. hardly comparable I'll ignore the regular season. I really don't care about packed houses in an 82 game season. At most, there are 16 home games for the Wings in the playoffs. Usually 11 or 12 in a successful playoff year. Sounds comparable to me. And what fanbase are we talking about? I haven't lived in Michigan in 3 years - you're telling me all the Lions fans AREN'T Wings fans? That was never the case, last I checked. Football will always be #1, but there's enough people in the metro Detroit area to pack the Joe in April/May/June based on their willingness to punish themselves watching the Lions every fall. But I've been to three regular season games this year, totalling $300 for my own tickets and I plan on attending one playoff game (game 5 of the finals). And yes, I'm telling you that Lions fans (football fans) are not all wings fan. Hockey is a niche sport even in this area.. people follow the tigers, pistons, and lions before they follow the wings. Thats not to say that they aren't intersted by our playoff runs, but they are hardly the sort to attend games.
