Wall Street Journal analyzes Hockeytown woes

It's the bloody economy.

I'm a medical student, and my wife makes $12 an hour, no benefits. Living on student loans and tight budgets, it's next to impossible to drop $100 a ticket for a game. Our tickets for game 5 against Nashville were $40 a pop, which can be done. Our tickets for game 2 against Dallas were $100 a piece. If they weren't gifts, we wouldn't have gone.

I'd have season tickets if I could. Yet, at $30-40 a ticket for regular season, $10 to park and gas at $4 a gallon, the money simply isn't there.

ive been very lucky to go to 5 games, even regular season is expensive, especially when you only make minimum wage, or just above. only one of the games we went to this year were free tix. nathan has shelled out probably 400$ in his money for tickets. I keep telling him that Id love to go to a playoff game, but with round 4 approaching he cant afford that, unless some one gives us free ones (which I doubt will happen) with that im happy to watch the game on our 42 inch plasma hd tv for now.

btw did any one know that the code spells out octopus?

for the price of two tickets, i could buy groceries for two people for a week.

for the price of the gas it takes to get to the joe (and i'm probably closer than anyone else here) and what it costs for parking, i could fill up my gas tank.

for the price of a beer and a hot pretzel at the joe, i could buy a six pack and a box of pretzels.

plus, lots of people work at night. it used to be that they could afford to blow off work for a day and go to a game. not so much anymore.

the economy is a joke, and everyone knows we in michigan have been hit the hardest.

yea your right on these. 2 upper bowl tix at 54$ a piece is a good amount for food.

same with gas...im usually coming from Sarina to Detroit (right down 94), its a hour to hour 45 min drive depending on construction/traffic. so the more of that stuff the more gas I use...even if I was coming from my house it would take the same amount of time and I live in the boonies.

like parking, i usually park at fox theatre (5$ when there is no event) and take the shuttle. pretty soon its gonna be that much for gas. I refuse to pay 20$ for parking for an hour. its insane. I had a hard enough time paying the 40 for a lions game. and what makes that so different?
