Expecting anyone to step up?

I expect a Herculean effort from Drake. 39 and playing in his first Cup Finals....that is a tremendous, tremendous motivator.

Guaranteed, if the Wings win four games to take the series, one of them will be thanks to a heavy dose of role player scoring.

I agree I see some of the Vets really turning it up!!!!!!

If the Pens lost in the SCF last year, I would be very very scared to play them this year, not that I don't think they can win, I just don't think they will.

But look out for them next season, IF they lose to the Wings you will be looking at an even more motivated group of very young very talented players. They are probably 2 players away from being as good as the Wings, 1 legit top pairing Defensive defenseman (coupled with another solid 2nd pairing Dman) and a shut down forward for the third line.

Fixed it for you.....otherwise, spot on.

Good point NFM,

They really need Defensive Defenseman, I am so glad the Wings best offensive D-man is also the best Defensive D-man!

LIDS IS THE MAN!!

Holmstrom MUST step up and start making good plays out there. Filpula and Cleary have to come up with some goals to at least match the Penguins' secondary scoring.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't understand why people seem to think Holmstrom hasn't "stepped up" when his linemates are leading the league in playoff scoring. If Homer wasn't doing something right, Z and Dats wouldn't be scoring as much as they are.

Your point is taken in regards to him scoring, but as long as the Wings PP is clicking (which it is) I don't care who buries it on that line, just so long as it gets buried.

Because if you are not playing at a ppg level wings fans are not happy.

The same reason Hudler, Lebda, Sammy, Cleary, etc. etc. are all bums in the eyes of most of these people.

It was really cool seeing Drake have a good game in Game 6 against Dallas, I would love to see that trend continue.....

I think he has been good all post season!!!!

He and Kronwall have been the teams hardest hitters!

He and Draper with Cleary form one of the best Defensive lines in the post season!

I thought Drake was done after the regular season, I WAS WRONG AND AM AN ASSHAT FOR DOUBTING YOU SIR DRAKE!!!

I expect everyone to find a new gear for this round or we will not win. At this stage, against a strong Penguins team we need 60 minutes from everyone, every game! The Penguins are no joke. I expect the leadership of the team to find a way to get everyone's perfomance to its best... and then some to get the job done!

Sorry, I meant good as in chipping in on the score sheet. You're right defensively and physically he has had a good playoff run...

I like the play of Lebda as well. He can potentially cause allot of problems with his speed. D-Mac? I have watched his play since his original tenure bagan with the Wings. I am dissappointed so far, he is missing that spark (and tenacity) that always seemed to be his trademark. I would love to see him get his groove back in this series, Would be perfect timing. We could use the Mule , hope he comes back. I think the rest of the team made it clear that they are "in it to win it" in game 6 against Dallas.....just need to keep it up !

He just didn't look right to me after that "goalie interference" on Datsyuk's goal in game 4. Looks like hes out of sync. That two on one when he just fell because he didn't seem to know what to do, some other plays where he hurried the puck and gave it away where there really was no need to. I'm not looking at his point total, just at his play in general. He's doing his job on the power play, but besides that, he hasn't looked right to me.

IMHO......secondary scoring and great defence and physical play will be the determiners in this series.............seems Saturday is a long way off...I'm going through withdraw !

Holmstrom is always going to look somewhat out of sync playing on a line with Z and Dats. Those two are some of the most skilled and elite players in the world, and Holmstrom will never be able to match that type of talent. TBH, if it weren't for the job Homer does in front of the net, its pretty safe to assume he might not only be off the Wings, but be out of the league as well.

Simply put, Homer's job is two-fold: (1) Create room and Z and Dats to do their magic, which he has...and (2) to be a net front presence that will hinder the oppositions goalie from making saves (especially on the PK), which again, he has done.

I can understand your worry about his play since the Game 4 "goalie interference" but lets break this down. Of course he was probably a little rattled the remainder of that game. Game 5 Turco flat-out played out of his mind, and Game 6 the Wings staked themselves to a 4 goal lead merely 23 minutes into the game. Top that off with the amount of PK time the Wings had to kill off the final two periods of that game, and all Homer really needed to do was play responsibly. He didn't need to score goals or create plays (like he did on the Colorado Game 3 drop pass to Raf which took a boatload of calmness). At that point, it was more of him probably trying to play a defensive role which really isn't Homer's forte to begin with.
