Hank Dats 'N Homer 81 Report post Posted June 9, 2008 Anybody else worried that we may get Dustin Penner-ed with Filppula? About the only signficant additions I expect on the roster next year are Leino, Helm fulltime, Howard as a backup, somebody like Redden if Stuart isn't signed, and perhaps a 2nd line center if Flip gets stolen from us. Does flip have to accept the contract if a team were to try and get him? Or is he obligated to go if he is given a contract that is more than what he is getting now? Cause if he would have to accept it in order to leave, i think he would sit down with holland and see if holland COULD match it and if he couldnt i dont think Flip would accept the contract from another team. I may be saying this becausei am a homer when it comes to flip, but i think he loves it here and hes not going to get a better chance at a championship anywhere else. With that said, he may be tired of living in the shadows of Z and D as well.....i hope he stays though...
greenrebellion 415 Report post Posted June 9, 2008 Is there a comprehensive list somewhere that details the status of all our players going into the offseason, i.e. RFA, FA and maybe what they were paid last year?

JeeSpot82 10 Report post Posted June 9, 2008 Quincy is a RFA and we could lose him for waht a 1st round pick i think? Meech is under contract till 2010 and in my opinion better than quincy So now you have Meech and Cheli battling for the 7th spot .. and wtf happens there We'd only get a first round pick for Quincey if we chose not to re-sign him and another team signs him for a contract between $2.3M and 3.5M, which - clearly - is absurd for a player with little NHL experience. The Restricted Free Agent Compensation table looks like this: $773,442 or less None $773,442 - $1,171,882 3rd round pick $1,171,882 - $2,343,764 2nd round pick $2,343,764 - $3,515,645 1st and 3rd round pick $3,515,645 - $4,687,527 1st, 2nd, and 3rd round pick $4,687,527 - $5,859,412 Two 1st's, one 2nd, one 3rd round pick $5,859,412 or more Four 1st round picks So, if he's signed to an offer sheet by another team, we'll receive either no compensation or a 3rd round pick, at best. OR, we can trade his rights before July 1st (but not after), but no one will bite. Another fun note, if the Wings chose to MATCH any offer made by another NHL Club, they cannot trade Quincey or his rights for a year from the signing. As for my roster prediction: Datsyuk - Zetterberg - Holmstrom Franzen - Filppula - Samuelsson Cleary - Draper - Hudler Maltby - Helm* - Kopecky McCarty / Downey Lidstrom - Rafalski Kronwall - Ericsson** Lebda - Meech / Quincey*** Chelios Osgood Howard *I'm certain Helm could benefit from another full season of top line minutes in Grand Rapids, but he really did show up to play in the playoffs - all the way through the Finals. Unlike Kyle Quincey the year before, who also played well in a playoff season, Helm began displacing rostered players (albeit, very different kinds of players [McCarty, Downey, Hartigan]). That being said, any free agent player that is signed this off-season (who isn't a Hartigan-type Griffin roster filler) will almost certainly take this roster spot. **I think Babcock is chomping at the opportunity to give Ericsson some PT, but he still has another year left of Waiver Exemption, making it possible to send him down to Grand Rapids without losing him. Therefore, be prepared to replace Ericsson with one of the following: Stuart, if he's re-signed (which I doubt), OR Lilja, if he's re-signed for an affordable price OR keeping both Quincey & Meech. ***Given the above scenario, it may be easier to trade a player already under contract (Meech), but - like many above me have said - I, too, believe he's a better fit with the team. Quincey did - however - show a lot through last year's playoffs as an injury sub. It'd be a tough player to say goodbye to. At the same time, I can see the Red Wings having a difficult time playing both Quincey and Meech on their top 6 because of lack of experience. But that's how you get experience, isn't it? Hank Dats 'N Homer 81 Report post Posted June 9, 2008 how exactly does an offer sheet work? For example, Filppula made 733,000 this year, and is in line to do the same next year i beleive. However, he is a RFA during this offseason. What would someone have to do to give him an offer sheet and how would it work? Would FLip have to accept it in order for us to have to match it or is it offical as long as a team is willing to give him an offer sheet? I was kind of confused last season during the whole Penner deal, so im still a little confused on how it works
Dano33 41 Report post Posted June 9, 2008 I believe Cheli has already said he wants to come back, and Holland already said he'd take him back. The real question, is will he crack the top 6 in the lineup? It's great Cheli still wants to play, hes been good for us since he's been here, but i must admit, i was a bit annoyed when i heard him say he still wants to play. I was kind of confused last season during the whole Penner deal, so im still a little confused on how it works Filppula does have to accept the offer sheet, just like any contract offer if he were an Unrestricted Free Agent. *edit: Meaning -- he isn't just property of whatever team gives him the biggest offer - he has to accept that team's offer. That means that Filppula would have to negotiate with another team instead of - or simultaneously with - the Red Wings. He and his agent can choose NOT to speak with other teams, if they desire, but fiscal responsibility on his part and his agent will probably make sure he's in contact with the other teams if the Wings don't tender an offer he likes by July 1st. If he is signed by the Red Wings before July 1st, we don't have anything to worry about. If talks stall and he reaches the market, there will be teams that will have no problem signing him to an offer sheet. The Red Wings then get the opportunity to MATCH that offer or let him go and accept the compensation I listed above. If Filppula signs an offer sheet - THAT IS THE CONTRACT HE WILL RECEIVE - either with the new team or with the Red Wings when they match. If you match an offer sheet, you cannot re-structure the deal to change term or salary. Edited June 9, 2008 by JeeSpot82
Hank Dats 'N Homer 81 Report post Posted June 9, 2008 I think Cheli is getting ragged on a little to much here. Hes a decent guy to have on your PK and is a good leadership guy for our young defensemen. He may be slower than he used to be, but he plays a physical game that i like. If we are going to lose Lilja, tha cheli is a must have in my book. Im not saying he isnt going to be healthy scratch some nights, and he probably wont be playing all playoff games, but hes a good player and id like him to be here. JeeSpot82 10 Report post Posted June 9, 2008 Awesome. Thanks. Who is that with Flip in your Av? That's Brett Lebda with Flipper. From sometime during the middle of last season when I had mad man-love for Flip. And Lebda. HA While I still love Flip (and Lebda), the rookie man-love has shifted whole-heartedly to Darren Helm. NeverForgetMac25 483 Report post Posted June 9, 2008 is drake coming back? I highly doubt it, but nothing official has been announced yet. For those making roster predictions that don't include Sammy, you're kidding yourselves. He's locked in through next season, and despite how streaky he is on offense, he's very defensively responsible. I get as annoyed with him as anyone, but a guy that trailed only Z and Dats amongst forwards in the +/- category isn't the worst to have around.
PaVel DaTsYuK fan13 0 Report post Posted June 9, 2008 Datsyuk - Zetterberg - Holmstrom Franzen - Flip - Sammy Cleary - Draper - Hudler Maltby - Helm - Macarty Leino/Kopecky Forwards seem pretty clear cut, assuming no major free agents are signed, defense however, is more of a toss up. Lidstrom - Rafalski Kronwall - Lebda Ericsson - Chelios Defense is hard to call, because I can see the six guys above, as well as Liljia, Stuart, Meech, and Quincey all being part of the lineup. I don't think Stuart will come back, and I have a hunch that Kenny will want to keep Cheli around. I say Ericsson gets thes spot, and Meech and Quincey each get chances during the year to prove themselves.
LeDs 0 Report post Posted June 9, 2008 On defense, Quincey has to make the club or pass through waivers. So he has to make the club or we lose him. I am all for keeping Chelios around he is warrior and is a valuable asset to the team. If we keep Stuart that would mean either Meech or Lebda would have to go. Ericsson can still be sent down without passing through waivers, so he may be sent back down even though it sounds like he is ready. As far as the forwards, the one player I would take a look at is Maltby. I know he is a fan favorite but what does he bring to the team? He doesn't hit like he used to, and when he does its soft hits. He isn't much of an agitator anymore and he doesn't score. He hasn't kept up his game like Draper has.
