Barring injury, a dip in work ethic, or poor off-ice conduct, Helm will have a roster spot next season.

He'd have to play extremely well in training camp and beat out a lot of players to get on the Wings... I am sure there was no "guarantee" in place for him to leave college. He is just getting into the minors earlier in the hopes of making the NHL earlier.

Zetterberg - Datsyuk - Holmstrom

Franzen - Fillpula - Samuelsson

Maltby - Draper - Cleary

Hudler - Kopecky - ______

Now you have: Helm, Leino and Abdelkader (maybe even Drake) all duking it out for that last slot w/ McCarty and/or Downey as a reserve (mucker/enforcer).

I am not sold on Kopecky having that spot, it is a tough injury to come back from.

For most athletes it is a full year recovery before the Athlete is back to form.

He may need a year in GR just to get healthy, the only question would be can he be sent back and forth? If not I see him as the 13th forward until the knee shows it is strong again. I could be wrong and he could show up a training camp ready to go, but it is unlikely.

Abdelkader at least uses his body, Kopecky is very soft player for his size and does not have offensive skills to make it to 2nd line. He is completly useless player, I hope Wings will trade him.

Abdelkader over Kopecky any day!

You could be right, but I am not so quick to dismiss Kopecky... wasn't he leading the team in hits for a stretch? And there were certainly moments when he turned it on physically, especially against physical teams like the Ducks.

I just am not ready to give up on him yet, and would still give him the nod over Abdelkader after only seeing him in the NHL for a couple games.

He is inconsistent, he would be very good 4th liner but he lacks aggressiveness. Abdelkader on the other hand showed he will use his body as often as possible.

Kopecky played over 100 games and did not prove he is good 4th liner. I would give chance to Abdelkader for sure.

People are so quick to forget. Kopecky was playing real well before he got injured. His second half of the regular season was real good and he was playing the best hockey of his career. He was using his size and providing some offence.

It will be interesting to see how Kopecky does after the rehab. Not everyone comes back from knee surgery the same way; hopefully he steps it up and improves his play. We'll have to wait and see.

Kopecky was leading the Wings forwards in hits when he was injured. Pretty good for a soft useless player

He was leading Wings in hits, but never showed the energy Abdelkader has.

He is soft for his size. And he is useless because he does not have the skill to play on 1st or 2nd line and is not aggresive enough to be hard hitting 4th liner, that's just my opinion. I would love to be wrong.
