McLellan to be named Sharks' head coach

Anyway I think it's more of my frustration that a coach of that kind of calibre couldn't wait to leave our team/take his promotion. I mean.. 1 hr after celebration? A man doesn't wake up 1 hr after Stanley Cup celebration and think 'you know what I'm gonna give a holler to my pal Dougie Willie in SJ' He obviously thought about it for a long time and planned everything during the Final so that he can pounce on it the minute the series end.

Absolutely agree..

well.. that was my initial reaction.

I understand his situation and I understand what he did, but it doesn't mean I have to like it as a Wings fan. Call me a bitter one, but I hope he really does have a lot of success. NOT

You don't think maybe Babcock and Co knew about this, there has been talk since about March that he would be coaching some where else next season.

I am almost certain Ken Holland and Mike Babcock and even the players knew this was coming, it is not like it was never discussed and he was keeping it a secret.

You are bitter that a coach who had a large role in winning the Wings' a Stanley cup is moving on to realize his dreams that is your opinion fine, but I disagree wish him all the success in the world, I will however root against him every time the play the wings.

seriously what should he have done, waited a day or two while vacancies fill up and then he is relegated to be an assistant again.

These jobs (the chance to coach an already successful team) come a long very very rarely, if he doesn't jump at it, he would be remissed.

IF the wings' had lost and the PP cost the series, then he announces it the day after the finals, yes then I would be pissed, because then he wasn't putting his best effort towards the team.

well the thing is I don't care about his situation. I only care about Wings situation. There is no way to figure out if he had put his best effort in the end or not, neither do you. We can only sepeculate about it. You think he gave his all, I think he was being distracted. What should he have done? well for my selfish reason, I think he should have waited till the game was over to prepare for his next job.

I was the one made a thread back in Stars series that Avs might be looking at him and he sounded like one to bolt after this season. If someone like me knew that, I'm sure everyone in Wings organization knew it was going to happen. However, I bet none of them thought he was going to call Sharks an hour after our celebration. Or are you saying Holland and Co knew McLellan readied all his resume and interview speech the minute we won?

I just think that he could have shown more respect to our club. Just my personal feeling based on selfish/not so selfish reasons I stated above.

Hey cool man that is your opinion I was just stating mine, if you can admit that it is your biased or selfish reasons, at least you are an honest human being and that goes a long way in my book!!!!!!!!!

But I will say the reason I think none of us can question what he put into the preparation for the SCF is because the wings won, had they lost, I would be screaming right beside you that he should have spent more time focusing on the wings not the sharks, imo that makes all of the difference. Because I have no proof it impacted anything, and I am a person who considers people to be trustworthy and honest until proven otherwise, unfortunately for me that has cost me a few burns in the past!

sounds cool and yes we won. It was a wonderful feeling. I guess I could warm up to him a bit.

but thinking about him coaching sharks.. I dunno .. I have a feeling I will really really hate him in future.

“When it comes to the playoffs, there’s an immense pressure that goes with higher expectations,” said McLellan, an accomplished head coach in the AHL, IHL and junior hockey before joining the Red Wings in a plan to groom himself for a top NHL job. “Sometimes you have to experience that before you can get over the hump. This team is in a position to do that right away.”

The Sharks hope they found just the right mix of veteran experience and youthful exuberance in McLellan, who became a hot property during the Wings’ surge. His silver-flecked hair should belong to somebody older than 40, yet his scruffy facial hair would suit any 20-something rookie.

After McLellan’s much-praised work with the Red Wings’ power play, at least one other NHL team formally requested an interview for their vacancy. He instead remained firmly focused on San Jose, with Red Wings luminaries Scotty Bowman and Steve Yzerman also recommending McLellan to Wilson, their longtime friend.
