How Active Will July 1st Be?

You know, there isnt a whole lot to look forward to during the hockey offseason (lucky for me im a die hard baseball fan and have the MLB) but i still need my hockey excitement. So yeah there is the draft to look forward to, but there is no immediate payoff from the draft as most of our picks are guys we wont see for years. Between the draft and training camp, the only thing we have to look forward to is July 1st. The question i ask is how active do you think teams are going to be on Junly 1st? Ive been waiting for it for a while now, but i cant help but have the feeling that i am going to be left with a sense of emptiness due to the inactivity of July 1st. For some reason i have a feeling there will be a few signings, but not many, and most other signings will be dragged out over a period of some months. On the other hand, there are some really good free agents this year, so there maybe a chance of some big signings on July 1st. Either way, my question is how active will the league be come july 1st? Are we going to see big names go right away or are they looking to test the market for a while?

Also, here is a list of the FA for this year

http://www.nhlnumbers.com/freeagents.php?t...amp;type=salary

I know everyone is tired of all the "who will the wings signed talk" so my new question is after looking ath the current free agent list, where do people think everyone will end up? Who will retire? I dont know, just trying to spice up the whole July 1st thing. If the mods find this dumb and or repetative please delete or merge. But i didnt a search for the topic and couldnt find anything other than the threads about who the wings will take, so i thought this would be different.

I think things will be hectic the first couple days for the top tiered players. I expect Campbell, Hossa, Redden, and a couple other top FAs will be signed before the 4th. I think Sundin will hold out until he is able to get a clear picture as to what teams rosters look like, I believe he will go to the team that has the best chance at winning a cup next year.

I think Chicago will go after one of the top pucking moving defensemen (Campbell, Redden, Rosival)

Boston will take a mid level Dman and look for a top forward (Hossa, Nasland, Demitra)

San Jose is in the market for a Dman if they can't hold on to Campbell, I can see Redden going there

This year is as hard as any to get a gage of where players will go because of the 6mill increase in the cap. Once the top players go the rest will fall into place.

I'm no Ekland, these are complete guesses

Campbell - Blackhawks

Malone- Wild

Redden- Sharks

Sundin- Rangers

Stuart- Kings (I hate this one)

Hossa- Canadians

Satan- Devils (just like the name fitting)

Rolston- Avs

Just saw that doug weight is a free agent. Is there a possibility that Holland may see him as a Drake replacelemt? Similar styles but a little better offense...? anyone?

Similar Styles?????

Weight = Skilled Playmaker.

Drake = Gun Ho Checking Forward.

Only similarity is that they were both over the hill with skills diminishing.

What does everyone think about Zhitnik? If Stuart leaves i think he could be a cheap option to play along side Kronwall. He had a horrible season this year but I think he would be a good fit. With him and Kronwall together players are going to have to keep their heads up thats for sure. He can also play on the PP and has bomb from the back end and would get sammy of the point

Should Stuart leave he'd be a good fit and he would be cheap and KH can spend in other Areas.

all i know is, and im sure this will never happen, but if stuart doesnt resign, i want campbell

i DO NOT want naslund or emery

i wouldnt mind kolzig, orpik, sundin

as for the rest of the NHL, i hope the rangers tone it down and let guys like dubinsky (sp) get playing time. and i hope chicago gets better because that was a fun rivalry when i was growing up, and lastly i want to see jagr retire as a penguin
