CenterIce 83 Report post Posted July 1, 2008 http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/news/story?i...ce=NHLHeadlines It's expected that Miller is seeking a long-term deal in the range of the six-year, $41.25 million deal New York Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist signed in February. Miller completed his third full season with the Sabres and had an up-and-down year in which he had difficulty with the load of appearing in a franchise-record 76 games. BeeRYCE 2 Report post Posted July 1, 2008 I think he could be close to Lundqvist money. Lundqvist is probably a top 3 goalie in the league, while Miller is a top 10. Not every starting goalie has to carry their team... Miller has virtually no defense in front of him.

Not every starting goalie has to carry their team... Miller has virtually no defense in front of him. Miller still has to mature, too. I think this whole "resign a player long term and hope it works out" thing is getting a little out of hand. It's okay for a player like Datsyuk, or a Lecavalier, or Zetterberg, but signing EVERYONE to long-ass contracts is just going to make things really freaking dull. lets go pavel 2 Report post Posted July 1, 2008 we don't need him and aren't going after him ... ozzie is the starter, and if we pick up anyone it will be a veteran guy for low money to help as backup ... kenny's philosophy is that you don't need a $7 million goalie to win it (as evidenced by this past season) and he'd rather spend his $ on quality 2 way players that fit the puck possession and team defense style the wings play with ... (no, didn't just pull this out of my ass, there is an article with kenny in the hockey news, but i can't find it online to give a link)

Not every starting goalie has to carry their team... Miller has virtually no defense in front of him. I think that there is a big difference between the two (but I think Miller might become that good in the future). Also, to me there is a big difference in between top 3 and top 10. One is in the best 10% and the other in the best 33%. I mean in theory (I know its not this way in reality because you have to consider the team as a whole) but one would make it at least to the conference finals and maybe the SCF but the other wouldn't make it out of the first round. Especially in the position of goalie, having the very cream of the crop is such a luxury.
