The new NHL schedule starts this upcoming season. We'll only see him 5 or 6 times, IIRC.

Hank 0 Report post Posted July 1, 2008 TSN I'm shocked at this. The Jackets either: a) want to get in the playoffs now and are willing to sacrifice the future for it or b) Brule's stock had fallen drastically since being drafted. When the Jackets first got this kid he was projected to be what Mike Richards is now - a point-per-game, two-way, centre who could score a goal and punch you in the face. But from listening to Scott Howson on XM it appears that his future are better at RW and that his offensive upside might not be what it was projected at 3 seasons ago. Torres will do well in C'Bus, but I would have loved to have him in a Wings jersey.
up2here 41 Report post Posted July 1, 2008 I find it hilarious that Don Cherry said Brule would be better than Crosby.Maybe the Blue Jackets can trade Torres to Pittsburgh for Sidney?
Rice 42 Report post Posted July 1, 2008 Dumb move, IMO. Columbus is in desperate need of a top-six center. Why give up on Brule this early? He's only 21 and was drafted sixth overall a few years ago. Maybe if they had traded Brule for an established center but trading for Torres doesn't make much sense to me.

Almost as funny as his preseason prediction every year that the Maple Leafs will go undefeated as well as win the World Series, Super Bowl and Wimbledon. Hank 0 Report post Posted July 1, 2008 I find it hilarious that Don Cherry said Brule would be better than Crosby.Maybe the Blue Jackets can trade Torres to Pittsburgh for Sidney? Wasn't it Cory Perry he said that about? And yeah, it was a very assinine comment. I love 'Grapes' but I always think it's funny how he forces CBC to point out all the correct predictions he's made but none of the wrong ones. To say that Perry was going to be better than AO or Crosby is insane. Of course, if Crosby had played in the OHL, he would be all over his sack too.
Yzerfan1999 81 Report post Posted July 1, 2008 The Central gets better and better. You're kidding right? Raffi Torres is a waste of cap space and a roster spot. Sure, he lays a big head hunting hit from time to time, but he actually rarely fights or stands up for his teamates, and he is lazy. Not to mention he was a notorious coke head here in Edmonton along with Jared Stoll. Whatever he had in 2005 when he scored 27 goals...he doesn't have it anymore. And Stoll too? Where did you hear that? P.S. I've actually been told by former OHL players that Sundin is/was a cokehead. Don't know how true that is though. The reports I saw of him was he was more like Hudler, and nothing like Richards. He's a pipsqueak to boot. Not sure what scouting report you are referencing. He's only 21 and was drafted sixth overall a few years ago. Maybe if they had traded Brule for an established center but trading for Torres doesn't make much sense to me. The Blue Jackets can't afford to wait anymore. They're making the playoff push this year. They got their young center in Umberger, now they're going hard after Morrison. Granted neither are great center as of now, and Morrison really needs a season to redeem himself, but all they're looking for is that playoff berth. Torres provides grit and great offesnive depth. And can be a 2nd liner if he rebounds after the (knee?) injury which still seemed to have lingering effects last season.
