Rice 42 Report post Posted July 1, 2008 The Edmonton Oilers have traded defenceman Joni Pitkanen, a restricted free agent, to the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for forward Erik Cole. Details to follow. I like it for both teams.

Yzerfan1999 81 Report post Posted July 1, 2008 Hate Erik Cole, but he is a good player and Edmonton needed a top 6 fwd. Cole just wears his socks too low, IMO.

VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted July 1, 2008 Hate the Oilers, but they are getting alot better. I like the trade for both. I wouldn't say they are a lot better. The moves theyu've made so far, I really don't see them being THAT much different than last season.
Opie 308 Report post Posted July 1, 2008 I wouldn't say they are a lot better. The moves theyu've made so far, I really don't see them being THAT much different than last season. Their D will be a lot better, they added a proven offensive threat and a young guy in Brule who was touted (Past tense) to be a top 6 forward. Plus they opened up cap space by trading away Torres' overpayment, ahhh contract rather. They may not contend for the cup this year but they will be considerably better. Agreed, especially with the maturity of Sam Gagner and Andrew Cogliano. The Oilers will be significantley better then last year. Not a cup threat yet, but I bet they make the playoffs. North Guy 0 Report post Posted July 1, 2008 If Hitchcock can light a fire under Torres butt, watch out. Even if Torres does not score 25 goals, his physical presence is what Columbus needs and what Brule cannot provide. Both Torres and Nash are LWs so I'm not sure if they can play on the same line. After watching the Worlds Championships, Scott Howson probably wants two big boys to play with Nash. Eric Cole basically replaces Torres in the Oilers lineup. Not sure how Brule will fit though. YoungGuns1340 1 Report post Posted July 1, 2008 I wouldn't say they are a lot better. The moves theyu've made so far, I really don't see them being THAT much different than last season. The moves they're making don't have to make them THAT much better. They were making a run for the playoffs late in the season simply on the backs of Gagner, Cogliano, Gilbert, etc. Now they have Cogliano, Gagner, Hemsky, Horcoff, Cole, Nilsson, Brodziak...the list goes on...all with valuable NHL experience. They have a great offense up front, and a fairly decent offense, assuming Souray can stay healthy even if it is only for his PP shot.

YoungGuns1340 1 Report post Posted July 1, 2008 Reliable D_MAn is keyword for i know nothing about you ;P I love Pitkanen. The guys a beast offensively, physically, and decent defensively. But he has injury problems of his own, and some attitude issues as well. Theres no way Cole would land Pitkanen on and one for one deal like otherwise. (and that whole Pitkanen is an unsigned RFA might have an effect too )
