Jeez, Burke is DEFINITELY the best GM in the NHL, eh?

I just thought of this now, while we've been partying over getting Hossa, the Ducks have basically been sitting around doing nothing, since they're so tight up against the cap. Not only does this mean Anaheim is probably gonna be worse off next year (compared to some of the other teams in their division, at least), but Burke sure has shown off his skills as GM. I mean, that Perry signing was genius! I think we should all jump on thew Anaheim bandwagon right now while there's any room.

I think Burke realizes a few things:

- His team has a limited salary.

- Having good players alone isn't enough to win it all. Ask Pittsburgh, ask Dallas. Both went heavy at the deadline. The team needs to sync, have few injuries, and be consistent offensively and defensively to win in the regular season, and especially to go deep into the playoffs.

Sometimes a team is just out of sync, getting out-hustled, not using enough basic hockey smarts (trying to do too much of one thing), or not healthy enough to make it.

I'm hoping the Ducks have an injury-riddled, horrible season (not many teams I hate more than them), and the Wings coast to another cup. :P

I don't see it being more than any other team. Especially of the stacked teams that went into the playoffs. Burke was just as famous with the Canucks.

Its partly b/c you guys beat us and partly b/c the media always seem to suck on Burke's wang. I thought he was a real good GM up until about 8 months ago when it started to look s***ty. And if you can be honest with yourself, he was pretty s***ty.

Bert signing not great

Losing that backup goalie who is pretty darn good not great

McDonald deal wasn't the best ever

Schneider? eh....could be an okay deal if he stays healthy and puts up the numbers this year

The main thing is Wings fans believe Holland to be one of the best, if not the VERY best guy in the game. His name gets mentioned often but it seems like the media just love Burke to death and frankly, we think he's getting too much credit.

My opinion is he is not the #1 GM in hockey yet he's often ranked the #1 GM which rubs Wings fans the wrong way since there is a rivalry.

If it were Darcy Regier or somebody out west you wouldn't see so much being posted about that person here. But its the Ducks and Burke so it is talked alot about.

PS: Your team looks worse this year than it did last year. In contrast, ours just nabbed one of the best forwards in the game, picked up a solid backup and has lost nobody from the roster except maybe Drake or Chelios or Downey.

To be fair,he had to sign Perry.

Heh... Burke is still fuming over Lowe and blaming him for single-handidly creating this market:

http://www.latimes.com/sports/printedition...0,1767418.story

"Burke said it was a reflection of the offer sheets that were handed out last summer by Edmonton General Manager Kevin Lowe, with whom Burke had a bitter feud after the Oilers threw a five-year, $21.25-million deal at Dustin Penner that the Ducks didn't match.

"They're all being re-signed at inflated prices," Burke said. "Everything I said a year ago has come true. Every single word.

"Most [general] managers don't like starting fights with any other managers. . . . Thanks to the Edmonton Oilers, the second contract [for players] has disappeared.

"You go right now from entry-level to what used to be the third contract, thanks to two offer sheets from Kevin Lowe."

i wouldent blame that only but it does still play a factor as why so many people are signing at infflated prices this year he helped open the flood gates he did not cause it

ok every GM gets too much respect when they win the cup

see burke last year and holland this year

sure they deserve respect for what they have done, they brought together these groups of men and they turned out to be winners. but it just gets blown up once they accomplish the task
