russianswede919293 95 Report post Posted July 3, 2008 Seems like players are taking less to stay in Pittsburgh to keep the core together as well. Good for them, maybe we will see each other again in the next few years.

dicksmack 33 Report post Posted July 3, 2008 I know he's young and all but he's a choker. He scored on himself to lose the final in the WJC and he pulled a repeat to lose the cup. I guess he forgot to leave his wallet in the dressing room.

I guess he forgot to leave his wallet in the dressing room. I think it's early to call him a choker, but he did have moments of brilliance, followed by some surprisingly soft goals. He's only 23. hopefully that experience will help him improve, and not just destroy his confidence.

MacK_Attack 108 Report post Posted July 3, 2008 Pretty good deal for the Pens, given what Huet & Theodore got.
NeverForgetMac25 483 Report post Posted July 3, 2008 Great deal for the Pens. $5 mil per is a nice discount considering what some other goalies have signed for the past few days.
zata40 3 Report post Posted July 3, 2008 only 5 mill? with all the crazy contracts going on I was expecting more. good signing for the pens.
chrisdetroit 189 Report post Posted July 3, 2008 Pretty good deal for the Pens, given what Huet & Theodore got. 5Mil a year is a good deal for Fleury? Are you serious. He's a pretty good goalie but come on. The issue with goalies is aslways consistancy and to date he has not shown any. Remember Khabibulin? Cam Ward? Theodore? Chris Mason? After 3 or 4 years like the one he just had, he might be a good deal for 5 years but after 1 good year - no way.
BeeRYCE 2 Report post Posted July 3, 2008 Very fair, IMO.
SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted July 3, 2008 Unless you just absolutely know that somebody will be a franchise player for a team or will just consistently produce, I generally don't like contracts all that much for more than 4-5 years. Yep, even the same to a certain degree when Datsyuk signed his 7-year deal at the beginning of the contract. Point being at least for me is rarely I think you know if people at young years/early 20s will fully produce, or potentially be busts, regardless of how high they might have been drafted like Fleury might have been. Also, calling people chokers at so early of an age and playing career is a bit premature as well I think. We've seen both the good and the ugly of Fluery, giving up two pretty bad goals in the deciding game of the Finals, but playing magnificently in games 3 and 5 obviously. Hopefully this deal will give him some comfort with the security and he'll be more consistent than he was in the Finals.
