Team Chemistry

Now that Hossa is a Wing, how does the team's psychological focus change? There has to be a feeling of superiority over the league and a feeling that the Wings should get the cup handed to them. I think they won the cup because of their determination and hustle. The one thing I agree with Melrose on is "Will beats skill." The Wings definitely had the will when it came to the cup this year. Will the Wings expect Hossa to win the cup by himself? Are they so good they don't have to have the same work ethic as before? Should it be easy now? How do you think this plays out? Do you see the team working as hard as they did in winning the cup?

They are too professional and have too much experience to fall for that trust me.

I don't think any team coached by Mike Babcock will have trouble working hard. I expect there might be a little bit of a cup hangover, but Babcock's whole system is based on out-working the opposition, so I expect it won't last long.

All Hossa does is make them better and hungrier. Here is a guy they beat in the Finals who joined for less money because he wants to win. They have solidified themselves as the best team in the league. I expect a repeat of last season, if not better. Hossa is a perfect fit for our system and team.

I think he'll come in and the chemistry will be the same, Hossa will be comfortable he has Kopecky and Hudler as country natives that he can relate too.. So shouldnt be a problem at all

you got to work to win guys, and this past years team worked hard and earned it, nobody lets you win, it makes teams with lesser known players want to beat a team like ours.

Everyone works hard and everyone plays hard= good team chemistry

I thought I read somewhere that Holland stated he wanted a Hossa / Sundin type on the roster to keep everyone motivated towards the ultimate goal.

The original post is a good question. No doubt the Wings will make the playoffs. I would put $ on the Presidents again.

But there is no way to tell what will happen in the playoffs until each round is over.

WHile skill does beat will in the playoffs, will+skill+preperation has the best chance of winning.

I've got until October to save up for a new flatscreen and surround sound. Never before have I ever wanted summer to come to an end, until the Hossa signing. Last October I had a feeling that Wings fans were in for something special, and I now think next season could be really special.

Usually teams need to dismantle after a championship, but the Red Wings front office has seen to it that won't be the case this year. But even Holland is suprised at how much better they got. Wow, can't wait.

It's so awesome to hear fans debating about the psychological aspects of a game that are completely unprovable.

"Hossa signed! Does that mean we get lazy and think we're going to just win another? Hey, pass Stanley over here so I can piss on it. Woohoo we won the Cup we're complacent the next one is a piece of cake LOLOLERRSKATES!"

Please. Give the intellect of hockey players a bit more credit than that. Motivation? They're professional ******* hockey players. They all want to win the Cup. Some fall short, and that's when people throw out garbage like "choke jobs" or "they didn't want it enough"

they are professional hockey players but at the same time they are human. You just can't say the hunger will be the same next year. Even you say so yourself in your head, your body probaby don't. though Hossa deal was really something else and would be a huge huge boost.

As for chemistry, I don't think it is something that has to be carefully nurtured. You just play and execute. If you happen to have something click, all the better. It's not like we need a special chemistry just to win some games.

What I like about the media reaction from Hossa signing is that they seem to peg us down as 'uber evil empire' that should go down. We might recuit a lot of new fans next year but at the same time we will have a lot of nay sayers who will be saying 'repeat is impossible' 'Hossa was dumb' etc etc

Time to prove them wrong once again I guess.

ozzie stated numerous times that he wanted to win the cup for drake, someone who had never won it and it was his greatest feeling to have won the cup for him. Granted they played together on St. Louis etc.. but I think the team will rally together for those who have not won it, I dont think the hangover will last long under babcock's system.

I actually am hoping Homer does get turfed from the top line, he is best on the PP between Lids and Ralf.

Zetter Pavel Franzen

Homer Filp Hossa

I might even suggest him going down to the Fourth line and getting top PP time.

If you demand a Z P Hossa line, may I suggest putting them as the SECOND power play line?

Think about this boldness, Lids and Ralf paired with Franzen homer and Val so Franzen and Val can fight for the puck down low and Homer can screen for those rockets, meanwhile if they don't get the job done, the second line would be Kronner Stuart and ZPH or the (zounds-goals per hour line?) would get that stuff done.

Think about how many times the euro twins drew the penalty anyways, they should get a quick minute rest before going out and playing clean up. I bet they would be the best PP unit in the league.

the rest of the lines would shake out according to who shows up, and I will be the first to say I suspect that Maltby may be shorted minutes this year. I wouldnt at all be surprised to see the lines end up being

Draper Helm Cleary

Kopecky Hudler Sammy

They will mesh because its only one person to bring in, and he is hungry and plays our style of game. He always scores no matter what.

It truly is a wonder why there aren't as many repeats in the nhl

pretty much out entire team besides hossa just experienced firsthand exactly how much determination, effort and will it takes to win a cup. thats not something you forget overnight.

Part of the reason I asked this question has to do with the egos involved as well. Yes, the team played very unselfishly, but when you bring in a guy and pay him more than the Stanley Cup MVP and the Selke Trophy winner, does that cause any hurt feelings? Yea they are "professionals" but that doesn't mean they aren't selfish at times, especially when it comes to getting paid. I hope paying Hossa doesn't make it difficult to reel Dats and Zets back in. Does anyone become unhappy with what they are getting paid and become a distraction? Don't act like it can't happen just because they have Babcock.
