We've got defensively sound players coming out of our ears. Defense can be taught. Offense and hands/touch not so much.

The one major thing Filppula needs to work on is Finishing. He seemed to be more focused on that in the playoffs, but he needs to get more consistent at it.

The rest of you can work out the Salary Thing. :)

The same was said about Datsyuk before he started shooting the puck. Filppula will never be a Datsyuk caliber or possess the skill Dats has, but he could learn alot from the way Datsyuk starting shooting the puck more.

Datsyuk:

2006/2007 SOG: 207

2007/2008 SOG: 264

27.53% increase

Filppula:

2007/2008 SOG: 122

2008/2009 SOG: ???

What's really interesting is that Val went from a 13.2 Shot/Goal % in the 06/07 season to a 15.6 Shot/Goal % this past year while increasing his shot total by 60.53% from the previous year. That's a great accomplishment given that most people's Shot/Goal % drops the more shots they take.

TBH finishing isn't Filppula's problem, its his lack of shooting that he needs to get away from.
