RedFX 48 Report post Posted July 7, 2008 Haha, I absolutely love Helm's game and think he will be a big part of our team next season and for years to come, though he will most likely spend time in Grand Rapids. How lucky are we that a great player with loads of potential like Helm probably won't start the year on the big squad because we have TOO MANY great players!!! Ken Holland is a genius, and I absolutely LOVE being a Red Wings fan!! Definitely makes me forget I'm a Lions fan. As far as Helm, it may come down to training camp. I think Babs would rather put him in Grand Rapids than have him as a rotation player (basically what Meech was last year). Huds will probably have that 3rd line spot for now and when Kopper gets back he'll probably be used in that rotation role.
dragonballgtz 273 Report post Posted July 8, 2008 QFT. It was far from a bad move. And whoever said Helm is a second Draper, thats selling Helm a little short. Draper has suspect hands, one season excepting. Helm, IMO, could be Mike Fisher Lite. just the way he was playing made me think of a younger draper....always on the go, winning the battles along the board. kid was damn impressive

But I thought his offensive talent was superior to anything I've ever seen from Draper..
SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted July 8, 2008 A large part of Helm's status as full-time/part-time on the Red Wings largely depends on waivers in the minors as well as the health of Kopecky and if Hartigan will come back to the Wings next season (isn't he a free agent, please correct me if I am wrong). I think due to a solid overall playoffs and with ACL injuries taking a long time to come back from, he has a slight edge of Kopecky for the final forward spot, assuming no other deals are made in the offseason. However, I'm also guessing Helm doesn't have to clear waivers, so it might do good to start out or be in the minors during the beginning/middle part of the season.
