Filatov looks pretty promising from the clips I have seen. Definitely depends on how he develops though and CBJ definitely has a tendency to rush their prospects (see: Zherdev, Brule, etc.). He could definitely develop into quite the hockey player and I have heard some AO comparisons. Here are a couple cool videos if you have no idea who were talking about:

as good of a young talent as this kid is

i dont see the jckets makein the playoffs

i lived in columbus teh last 2 years so ill occasianoly catch a game on tv and it seemed like as soon as they added somone this offseason they got rid of an equal talent

i want the BJ's to improve maybe id make hockey more wide spread in this area cause its hard to find a league to play for cause theres no hockey buzz in this city so no kids really want to play

but back on subject

a good young talent i still say BJ's are at least a year or 2 away from playoffs

It will be tough for the BJ's to make the playoffs this year having to play 24 games against the likes of Detroit, Nashville and Chicago. They definitely have the young potential to pull it out though with players like Filatov, Brassard, and Voracek. It all depends on how these players develop in the NHL. They all have pretty high ceilings as far as potential goes.

The Zherdev dealing was probably based on his lack of motivation as well as figuring Filatov would replace him so in turn dumping salary. They have replaced his offense with similar offense in Huselius and Umberger, but additionally their signings bring needed playoff experience and leadership (something they thoroughly lacked before).

Filatov is pretty ready from what I read. I think giving him a go at less than ten games this year wouldn't be rushing him. If he isn't ready he can spend the season in the OHL and most likely be ready in 09-10. He's a natural talent with a strong desire to play NA hockey. He's pretty big for his age and will fill out a little more over the next few months. One thing's for sure, if he does play in the OHL - he'll tear it up.

i know zherdev had some issues in colmbo but at the draft the guys coering it made the comment of russian players ebing willing to run back home if they dislike it here

they also pointed that filitov knew the language already which was to his advantage but they also made a very good point in that zherdev was there..another russian and i thought those two could really help each other thats y the Zherdev deal struck me as a questonable move

i just thought those two could compliment eachother nicely

They are similar players. The major difference is that Zherdev was already a demanding player in the salary cap (well, only 2.5 mil but thats demanding compared to an entry level contract). Also, I question Zherdev's drive in the NHL vs. Filatov proclaiming that he wanted to come to NA and play our style of hockey. IMO, Filatov already seems like a better fit. Personally, I think Zherdev is a bit of a primadona. He hasn't really lived up to his hype and would rather make a pretty play than win a game.

i do agree zherdev i think would be happier scoring a bunch of fancy goals gettin paid and never winning or havein the pressure of winning a chmpionship

f he had some determination and the want to win he could be a great player
