Yzerfan1999 81 Report post Posted July 21, 2008 For about 50 years, yes. But how long have the Yankees been around? 1903. Regardless, the point is jerseys change, it's not a big deal. Everyone is making it sound sac religious to add a third jersey. Not change the logo, not eliminate one of the two current jerseys, add a third. Big freakin' deal. So what if it's all about making some extra money! Isn't that what it's all about anyway? Making money? And before you answer, remember the lockout. And no, in baseball the jerseys aren't always different 'word mark'. Take the Atlanta Braves for instance. Same jersey, just different colors. Hell, if you want to go there, look at the Tigers, they have been around longer than the Wings and they have gone through some jersey's too. Again, it's just a matter of time before it happens. You are right, I should have said 'usually'. As for the Yankees though, they have had the same jersey style for over 50 years and it would be sacrilegious for their fans if they changed them now. Then again they get their fill with the all black spring training uni, but even that is keeping with the yankees colours and symbol - its not a big change. I think most people are right to strongly reject any change to the Wings jersey, whether it was the logo, or adding a black third. Retro would be completely fine, but there is no point in restyling the symbol or the colours.
imisssergei 0 Report post Posted July 22, 2008 Actually it's been about 70 years since the Yankees wore anything different than what they wear now. And if you want to use the Tigers as an example, great. The Tigers are one of the very few teams in baseball that has NEVER worn anything other than the home whites or road grays. Most baseball teams have a colored third; some have fourths and multiple variations. The Tigers, along with the Yankees and Dodgers (and I think that's it) don't have one. While the base colors haven't changed, the style has. Things like the font on the front of the jersey of the grey. Back in the days of Sweet Lou and Gibby it was printed 'detroit', now it's cursive 'detroit'. My point is THINGS CHANGE. The Wings will get a third jersey at some point. It's just a matter of time. And seriously, no one would be so offended that they wouldn't watch. Don't try and lie, you know we would all still watch. You guys have to remember one thing. Selling third jerseys is an extra source of income. And it's ALWAYS about the money money, yeah yeah.

There is no way that Yankee fans would have a problem with the Yankees wearing a blue top (BTW the Yankees don't have black as a color, they have navy blue) with the pinstripe pants. Anything the Yankees do is always going to be fine. Another great example is the Red Sox. They have went through numerous jersey changes. Yet, somehow, fans still seem to find a way to watch. There is a point to restyling the jersey....$$$$$$$$
CUJO#31 0 Report post Posted July 22, 2008 I have seen nothing in this thread that I think the Wings management will take seriously. They might use a retro for the Winter Classic, but I think Mike Illitch would die before he let anyone put black in a Wings jersey or altered it in any way. I thank god for that. Like this??!?!
