More proof that Ovechkin is basically awesome

I find the Crosby is overrated/Crosby whines/Crosby is a bad leader posts really interesting and amusing.

First the whining part. Name me an NHL player that hasn't whined. Every athlete in pretty much any professional sport along with their mother has whined at some point in their careers. Even *gasp* Steve Yzerman whined sometimes. *prepares for hate responses*

If Crosby was such a bad leader, he would've been stripped of his captaincy a long time ago, and it would've been the decision of the other players and the coach I'm betting. It has nothing to do with him being one of the main marketing campaigns in the NHL right now.

If Crosby is overrated, what do you expect him to do, especially at 20 years old? Score 175 points a season?

Sydney Crosby might have asked for the captaincy, but I'm betting he probably didn't ask to be the main face of the NHL. Given that he is only 20, has produced extremely solid numbers in his limited experience in the NHL so far, and initally came into the league with such a high amount of hype, I think so far in the grand scheme of things he has handled himself very well.

The disdain towards Crosby in here I think is either...

(1) people being jealous of him

(2) just being sick and tired of him being marketed so much

And I can understand the 2nd reason that I am guessing, to a certain degree. I wouldn't mind seeing the NHL promote more guys outside of Crosby and Ovechkin, but honestly it isn't going to change my viewing of the Red Wings or hockey one way or the other, and I highly doubt it will significantly affect people's viewing of it in here either of significant degree. Hyping Crosby this much doesn't bother me whatsoever, if it makes the game/league more popular, great. However, if Datsyuk or Zetterberg were hyped as much as Crosby, I highly doubt anybody in here would be complaining one iota.

And not many people in here will probably say this, but I will. In a perfect world with no cap and the like, I am betting plenty of people would love to have Sydney Crosby on this team. There needs to be no explanation of how extremely talented he is. If you respond at me with the leadership/whining bit, understand that he probably wouldn't (at least initially) be captain for this team, and again he's only 20. And if you respond with him not PKing or being as good on defense, Babcock would whip his rear in shape to play better defense.

Seriously, what is with you personalizing this discussion? I have mad respect for Crosby and the only thing I did was nitpick a list.

I'm not going to bother discussing something with a person who is arrogant and acts like they know my opinion of someone. Seriously grow up.

Sorry. I didn't realise I wasn't having this discussion with you. I thought I was. Cheer up, Tiger. All the best.

I really think the most difficult thing with Sid is... He played us in the Finals. People find resentments for him, I think that it is okay to do that. I think Sid is a good player. I also think AO is better. He is the Pens, he is the Captian and noone else on the team should be. I do think he gets over hyped due to the fact that he is the poster boy, that he is compared to Wayne. The biggest reason that he is so ridiculed around here is because we started a very shallow rivalry with them and of all the Playoff's the were our best opponents. If we played the Caps I bet the tables would be turned a bit and people would have a little hater-aid for AO.

I am far from a AO slappy like some but he does have a bit more charisma. That also is something I kinda like about Sid, the quiet Yzerman type personality. It is just like some people like wheaties while others really dig fruity pebbles, it really just depends on what you feel like for breakfast.

Edit: WOW I must be really tired....

Well I am trying to get some evidence of leadership (other than playing great, everyone knows he is an unbelievable player) but all I'm getting is accusations of being a "crosby hater".

Come on man.

Evidence? I don't know what to say to that. Can you provide evidence Yzerman was a great leader? All ou can do is provide reasons why you are of that opinion. Same here.

My opinion on Crosby's leadership is just that and nothing more. However, I have given you reasons why I am of this opinion and you have dismissed them saying it's not evidence.

If I were childish, I'd ask you for evidence proving he is not a great leader.

The thing is I can get you quotes from players, coaches, employees that talk about how great he is.

All I've gotten is evidence that Crosby can handle the media attention well. Good for him but I have seen his emotions get the best of him way too many times and at the worst moments which doesn't help his case.

He's a pup, man. Of course that's gonna happen. It happened to Yzerman, Messier, Iginla, Lemieux, Trottier and Gretzky too. Especially when they were young. It didn't make them bad leaders. It just made them human. But to be honest, I can't think of him doing it too many times at the worst moments. In those moments he scores goals much more often. MUCH more often.

I totally agree he will become a great captain, but I just don't read too much into them giving him the C because he hasn't shown discipline or been very humble on the ice, so that was all my nitpick was about.

The guy is friggin amazing, and he is one of the best in the league right now.
