auxlepli 17 Report post Posted August 8, 2008 ABC will show five, but the rest will move from ESPN to Versus. I couldn't be happier. This is great news in my opinion. More leagues and sports need to jump on the Versus bandwagon. Like with the NHL, Versus will provide more IRL coverage than the four-letter did, but the sacrifice is giving up 23 million homes. Still it's positive move. Other races fans I've talked to our happy about the move too. Seems the Indianapolis Star can only publish negative reactions though. http://www.indystar.com/apps/pbcs.dll/arti...439/1004/SPORTS
auxlepli 17 Report post Posted August 21, 2008 Robin Miller is getting some positive feedback about the IRL moving to Versus. http://www.speedtv.com/auto-racing/article...g-for-august-20 As I stated above, I had over 150 e-mails this week and more than 50 percent of them were about Versus and 70 percent of those were very complimentary and supportive of IndyCar going to Versus. The key remains for the IRL to advertise on other networks and get the word out how to watch its races. Make it simple to find, when possible. In some of the questions and answers it's easy in my mind to replace IRL with NHL and NASCAR with NFL. For example: 2) Versus is in well over 70 million homes (76 I think and growing), which isn’t that far behind ESPN (especially ESPN2 and ESPN Classic, which the IRL often ends up on). 3) Versus is paying for this deal, so if you take the money from Versus, the money that the IRL would have had to pay to be on ABC / ESPN, and the IRL’s normal advertising expenses, and combine them, you suddenly have a really big advertising budget that can be used on other networks, websites, publications, etc. to draw people to Versus. In addition, Versus is going to be promoting this hard themselves, both as part of the deal (from what I read) and because they want this deal to work. There should be more advertising coverage for the IRL next year than “ever” before. Too bad many around here weren't as positive, and still aren't, about the NHL's move to Versus. It's probably a good thing for the NHL that Vs. got the IRL. IRL isn't exactly the country's most popular sport - it's probably running 15th or so - but a little cross-pollination never hurt.
