Lidstrom is not the most valuable player in the league; that is one category Ovechkin is well ahead of him in. It's hard to be the MVP when your team boasts three of the top six players in the league. But as far as best player? Lidstrom is that, hands down. No, he's not the guy most would choose first overall if you could draft a team from all NHLers for long term stability. But that is because of his age, not his ability. In that draft, I would hope to get Lidstrom in round two if I had an early pick, though. I wouldn't expect to see him still available by that point though.
