Namtaru 57 Report post Posted April 29, 2009 (edited) My experience with hockeystreams.com is HORRID! Worse online experience that I have ever had... What a waste of time, energy and money. And what a big hassle dealing with them! Google: hockeystreams.com ripoff And read THIS thread. Hockeystreams is illegally stealing NHL feeds and selling them to you for profit. That's not only wrong, but costly if you are caught. If NHL's lawyers track you down, they can sue you for damages. Anyone remember the single mother in Minnesota who illegally downloaded from a PSP web site? She was ordered to pay $222,000 fines and costs and all she did was download. I am no lawyer, but I'd imagine this could be the same type of offense as downloading. Be careful guys! all illegal actions aside, simply from that sentence it would seem as though you are not really computer savvy, which would appear to be why you may have had a lot of issues Edited April 29, 2009 by Namtaru
ilmickeyli 40 Report post Posted April 29, 2009 Right, but as a consumer, how the hell would I know if it's legal or not? (I mean if we're talking about litigation here) esteef Exactly. When the NHL takes them down (there's no if -- if we've got NHL employees in this thread.....), it's going to be hard (if not impossible) to go after their user base. esteef 2,679 Report post Posted April 29, 2009 That's the question of the day... which is why I admitted to being stupid and gullible because I failed to do common research. Email NHL and ask them if this is a legit web site that has permission to use their feeds for profit. I didn't need to email NHL, since the ADMIN (Billy) admitted to me they are not legally using NHL feeds or using these feeds in good faith. As a web site owner myself, I would chase after anyone stealing my content... and sue for damages. Why should others profit from my hard work? So how does Ustream.tv work. I mean I know it's free but I went there and couldn't really find anything. Will the games just show up in the All>Sports>Hockey>Live window on game day? Is it the same crappy quality as the SCF Game 6 they have there? Thanks for the info btw, esteef
esteef 2,679 Report post Posted April 29, 2009 True, I don't use PSP (which is called Person-to-Person, correct?). I'm not savvy with this kind of stuff, which I think could be a good thing. EDIT: Haha, okay, it's called P2P, not PSP... shows how much I know about illegal web sites. I'm proud to say that I don't use them. P2P is what I believe you meant to say (peer-to-peer), and they're not illegal by default, it's the potential content on them that could be "illegal". esteef
rage 24 Report post Posted April 29, 2009 Yes, I failed to do common research. That was very stupid of me. With that said, I am glad to have cut my ties with this sleazy web site before I got zapped with penalties and fees from NHL's legal team. This stuff isn't being taken very lightly anymore. Please. They are not going to come after the end user.
Namtaru 57 Report post Posted April 29, 2009 (edited) What's up, dude LOL @ MrSandMan I'm not trying to make this sound bad in any way towards you, but you are comparing two completely different things. One case involves possession of property and the other does not. In this specific case of users paying for hockeystreams, there is no way the end user base will be the ones targeted, it will be the owners and runners of the site who are the ones that will be taken down Edited April 29, 2009 by Namtaru
Doggy 130 Report post Posted April 29, 2009 LOL @ MrSandMan I'm not trying to make this sound bad in any way towards you, but you are comparing two completely different things. Particularly because the website claims to be legal. That alone relieves the end user from liability and all damages would be directed at the fraudulent website because of its untrue claims. Doggy 130 Report post Posted April 29, 2009 It appears they've deleted it from their FAQ. When I signed up the question "Is this legal?" was there and in as many words it said yes. An ominous sign I guess, lol.

Reds4Life 51 Report post Posted April 30, 2009 hockeystreams.com servers are in Netherlands and it's been up for quite some time now. NHL or whoever they hire can do nothing about it. Absolutely nothing.
HOCKEY MATTERS 167 Report post Posted April 30, 2009 note to NHL: wanna keep people from resorting to this kind of offshore piracy? SHOW THE GAMES ON THE CABLE/SATELLITE THAT WE HAVE! jerks.
ilmickeyli 40 Report post Posted April 30, 2009 hockeystreams.com servers are in Netherlands and it's been up for quite some time now. NHL or whoever they hire can do nothing about it. Absolutely nothing. Just like Sweden is a haven for torrent sites? Oh, wait... If the legal douchenozzles want it down - and are willing to use the resources... There is no safe haven
esteef 2,679 Report post Posted April 30, 2009 (edited) note to NHL: wanna keep people from resorting to this kind of offshore piracy? SHOW THE GAMES ON THE CABLE/SATELLITE THAT WE HAVE! jerks. Exactly. They have customers scrambling to find their product through any means necessary because they don't do a good enough job of providing it. Like I said in another thread, I pay extra for Center Ice and make sure I have all the necessary channels (Versus, etc) and I STILL don't get to see all my team's games! The days of the "watch whatever they feel like broadcasting" are over. (See radio) These games, all of them, should be available to everyone, wherever they are. Get with the times NHL! I feel better now, esteef Edited April 30, 2009 by esteef
wingfan1991 221 Report post Posted May 19, 2009 been with hockeystreams.com all year , great service.. BUT the past couple days ridiculous! i wasnt aware that the subscription auto-newed, on the 15th and they charged me $9.99 (not sure for what), cause i had the HD pack paid $70/year. i cancelled on the 16th after i noticed i got billed via email.. so on the 16th emailed them and see if they can reimburse me and cancel the hockeystreams account. no reply. email them on the 17th, no reply. email them on the 18th, no reply. im really peeved cause these guys throughout the year were instant replies. anyone else have issues? i mean ok im f***ed now for $10 big deal, but at least reply and say you know what this is the service, and i would be ok with it. come october i might just go the center ice route on tv, f*** it.
