egroen 384 Report post Posted October 5, 2008 http://www.sportingnews.com/yourturn/viewtopic.php?t=466980 A bit of a cry-baby? yes. But he has outperformed Hedburg in every conceivable way. Atlanta really is the most poorly run organization in the NHL.
Konnan511 1,736 Report post Posted October 5, 2008 Epic Fail by Atlanta, what's their cap situation like, is this a Bobby Ryan type deal, or do they have plenty of space?
egroen 384 Report post Posted October 5, 2008 They have plenty - they got Schneider in order to hit the floor.
Konnan511 1,736 Report post Posted October 5, 2008 Then...why are they sending him down if he is better and has been playing better?
MacK_Attack 108 Report post Posted October 5, 2008 (edited) They have plenty - they got Schneider in order to hit the floor. I'd bet it has nothing to do with cap hit and everything to do with budget. If Pavelec is on a two-way deal, it saves the Thrashers some coin when he's in the minors because he'd make his AHL salary. Hedberg is on a one-way deal and would make his NHL salary in the AHL, so if Hedberg stays to back-up Lehtonen, the Thrashers save some money. If Pavelec is on a one-way deal, then this is just a baffling move. Edited October 5, 2008 by MacK_Attack
Doggy 130 Report post Posted October 5, 2008 Waddell should have traded him or given him a go like he said he would. The only reason they drafted a goaltender is because Pavelec was such a ridiculous steal at #41. I don't blame Pavelec for being pissed. He wanted to re-enter the draft because he was concerned he wouldn't get a go coz of Lehtonen but Waddell promised the world and isn't delivering.
jawbreaker 0 Report post Posted October 5, 2008 They have such an awful owners, that it's really scary. They have still kept Waddell, despite that he has been very bad in his position. Now they are trying to save some pocket change. Someone, who actually cares about hockey should buy this team. No fast changes = No Kovalchuk = Atlanta without NHL team
Reds4Life 51 Report post Posted October 5, 2008 (edited) Waddell sucks, he is really really poor GM. He should be fired asap. Pavelec is solid prospect, definitely better goalie than Hedberg, no wonder he wants out of Atlanta. Edited October 5, 2008 by Reds4Life

Hockeytown0001 7,652 Report post Posted October 5, 2008 (edited) I'm kinda on the fence here. While it does kinda sound like the guy's whining a little too much....if he's the better goalie, then he should be put in and been given more chances to play. Besides, there's plenty of reasons to not want to play for Atlanta regardless....their god-awful baby blue uniforms, terrible hockey city, no talent after Kovalchuk, on and on and on. b.shanafan14 733 Report post Posted October 5, 2008 (edited) I'm with Pavelec on this one. Its just an issue of Atlanta having a terrible organization that would rather same a few bucks then put a decent product on the ice. Teams like this piss me off, cause they have a franchise that hovers around the cap floor and it seems that if they don't feel like contenders, they just get by with the bare minimum and expect that one year they are just going to be good out of the blue. Treating players like this is why teams like Atlanta aren't destinations. From all accounts, this Pavelec kid is pretty damn good, at least compared to Hedberg and just hasn't been given a fair shake because the Thrashers would rather call it a season before it begins and save change then develop their drafted talent.
