Drake_Marcus 890 Report post Posted October 6, 2008 If it were up to me I'd quietly advise Maltby to retire and offer him a position within the organization (so he can still be a locker room presense and friend/mentor to the team). I'd draw a sweet, kick-ass goodbye card with my crayons for Lebda and tell Quincey it's been nice having him around. Then I'd trade Quincey and Lebda for a bag of chicken feed and a pick, respectively. Meech and Ericsson would man the back line (oh noes! a rookie 3rd pairing!). Helm would play the 4th line in Maltby's place and the pk in his place as well. Leino would stay with the team as the 13th forward or even take Kopecky's spot. Of course- I'd do that because I like those four guys. I'm not sure that'd be best for the team... Kopecky could yet be worth something if he manages to stay un-injured. Who in their right mind would give up a first for those guys? I could see a second maybe... Also the Wings just re-signed Lilja so i doubt he gets moved. Drake_Marcus 890 Report post Posted October 6, 2008 Are you related to Burke? I'd hardly equate droping a 4th liner, a did-not-play-in-the-finals 4th liner, a 3rd pairing d-man and a disappointing prospect to losing Andy MacDonald and Dustin Penner then signing two old players for more than they're worth. Kopecky, Maltby, Lebda and Quincey hardly won the cup for the Wings. Lebda and Malts are certainly important pieces, which is why I'd be hesistant about moving them, but they're both the lowest on the totem pole in terms of importance. Leino has the potential to be an excellent top six guy for the Wings and he's a veteran pro hockey player (6 years in the top Finnish league). Meech needs a chance to actually play some games at some point. He's not getting younger and has to develop some time.

Meech isn't that great either...Quincey gives us something we need, a tough stay at home Dman, whereas Meech is just another run and gun style dman, they are great, but, we have 10 others who are or will be better, Id say hed make better trade bait for a 1 or 2 draft pick, and if we get rid of Sammy and Lilja then we can all wake up and blame the real problems on this team, Lidstrom, Zetterberg, Datsyuk, Osgood, and Ken Holland...lazy bastards! I think with Chelios hurt the defense will have to wait, but the forward cuts should be very interesting.

Drake_Marcus 890 Report post Posted October 6, 2008 the only D that sucked that i saw was Lebda and Lilja, they seemed to give up all the goals... Huh? They both played better than Q. Lilja actually had a pretty strong preseason, especially the first 5 or 6 games.
