Blackhawks fire coach Savard

The Wings knocked the Blues out of the playoffs in '96, but Quenneville wasn't the coach. He started coaching the Blues in the 1996-97 season.

I was referring to 98/99 through 00/01.

Edit: Just found it and it was only the 4 Cup seasons. Like McCartyFanForLife stated, it was probably due to the fact that three seasons in a row Detroit knocked them out.

I was just flipping through the channels, and I saw a press confrence with the Hawk's brass on the chicago comcast channel. It's official-Quinville is the new head coach. It will be interesting to see what he does with all of that young talent.

I was listening to Home Ice on XM on my way home, and they said that The front office in Chicago is a mess. From what they thought, Scotty would be the GM soon.

I'm intrigued by this. I'm wondering if it was planned, or (what I think is more likely) he stepped on the wrong toes (be it internal politics, or something more scandalous).

I think it was planned.

I'm so glad you said "discuss" otherwise I wasn't sure if I could reply or not. Thanks!

I think Scotty would feel too old to do this. It is a grind. Beside, he went out with a Cup and the chances of that happening in Chicago are slim to none!

Did the players not like him?

Scotty is probably still on the wings payroll, and is ruining the club. I can't think of any reason they would fire savard.

Flat camp? Flat start? Its the beginning of the season, calm down. Even the wings aren't looking so hot right now, but they aren't about to fire babs.

The wings should pick up Savard as an assistant, or help in the minors. He did a good job working with the young guys in Chicago.
