Wings Penalties

Now that October has come to a close, I took a moment to compare Wings penalties with those of the teams we have played (combined) & here are my findings:

Over all count: Wings = 62 Others = 55

Hooking: W = 13 O = 12

Roughing W = 12 O = 8

Tripping W = 11 O = 6

Interference W = 8 O = 6

Delay of Game (over glass) W = 3 O = 2

Slashing W = 2 O = 3

Holding W = 3 O = 6

Crosschecking W = 1 O = 1

Hi-sticking W = 2 O = 6

Holding the Stick W = 2 O = 1

Fighting (maj.) W = 1 O = 1

Boarding W = 1 O = 0

Too Many Men W = 1 O = 1

Unsportsman like conduct W = 0 O = 1

Diving W = 0 O = 1

Elbowing W = 1 O = 0

Goalie Interference W = 1 O = 0

Hopefully, we'll get those numbers down in Nov.

It will help our defense if we can take fewer penalties. We also need to posess the puck more, then the other team will take more penalties.

You can compare the Wings only aganist the teams that they played but that is meaningless because you narrow the sample to 11 out of the 29 other teams.

Statisics 101. The sample size in your comparison is too small to be significant.

In fact none of the statistics mean anything since we have only played 11 of the 82 games or only 13.4%.

Even if the 13% of our games were enough to make a comparison, the Wings still rank #25 in PIM.

What are you comparing? This thread is just looking at the games we've played so far. Not Wings v the rest of the league or something. It isn't a sample, it's the entire thing. The results is that we've taken more penalties than we've drawn.

I drew it on there with a ball point pen, then used a paring knife & a citrus peeler to carve out the areas that represent white on the winged wheel. & thanks, I'm glad you like it.

Which is a ridiculously misleading figure because the Wings have had only one 5 minute major (a fight) and zero 10 minute misconducts. Neither of which lead to shorthanded situations.

The Wings have had the 5th most powerplays against in the league. That is bad. Really bad. Especially with the 22nd ranked PK...
