SouthernHockeyHoney 20 Report post Posted November 12, 2008 I have been watching a lot more hockey this year so far and had an observation. When a team gets caught on an icing and is unable to change (and no longer able to take advantage of the commercial breaks) I have noticed that a lot of goaltenders seem to have equipment problems/malfunctions at exactly that moment. If it had only been once or twice, I might rack it up to coincidence. Anyone else notice this trend? Inquiring minds want to know.

Echolalia 2,961 Report post Posted November 12, 2008 It happened against the Wings recently. Redmond and Daniels were joking about it.
NeverForgetMac25 483 Report post Posted November 12, 2008 Well, TBH...it makes sense. If a goalie can get away with it and give his boys a breather at a crucial time you'll be hard-pressed to find many goalies that wouldn't take advantage of a situation like that. Is it cheap: absolutely. Can it also be very smart: without a doubt.
stormboy 47 Report post Posted November 12, 2008 yeah, it's probably the same thing as in many different sports. any little thing you can do that is within the rules but helps out your team somewhat, it's likely that a lot of people are going to do it, even if it is kind of cheap. i haven't noticed this myself, but it doesn't surprise me at all. HD30 6 Report post Posted November 13, 2008 As a goaltender, I've used this trick myself before. There is one faulty strap on m pads that I know how to make it go lose without much effort. I've only used it once or twice, but it was to rest my teammates and myself on a very long penalty kill.
