Every Wings player is minus except the top line and top 4 d-men

I was just looking over the stats at tsn.ca and noticed that every single player on our team is either a minus or at 0 except for Datsyuk, Hossa, Holmstrom, Lidstrom, Rafalski, Kronwall, and Stuart. I just found this very suprising so I thought I would bring it up on these boards to discuss...

Not a big surprise when you consider that most game are won by one goal and most of our goals are scored on the PP. It does show that we are not getting much offence out of lines 3 and 4 yet which I hope changes soon. It makes me wonder what our record would be if our PP sucked though

I don't think they will be fine because of their record. I think the will be fine due to the fact that they have proven the talents that they are and the fact that their record is good means they haven't dug themselves a hole. Their record is not an indicator of how good they are, it is better than they have been playing, but instead of being a pessimist I look at it as they have been able to win games at a point when they are not playing their best which to me means that once they get things going ( I have faith they will) they will be in a good position. If that makes sense, I tend to ramble.

Although +/- is a very good indicator on how well you are playing, it can also be misleading. Say you give up 2 even-strength goals and 10 of your players are minus one and the rest are even, but you get 3 or 4 PP goals during the game. You still win handily even though not a single player is a plus and the majority are minus.

Just another reason that the +/- stat is deceiving. It only means anything when you do an in-depth analysis of each player. A high +/- means nothing for a pure offensive player who spends NO time against the oppositions top scoring lines. Same can be said for a low or negative +/- for a player who scores little but spends all his time against the oppositions top scoring lines. You also have to take the goaltender into account as well as linemates. Are you in the red because of YOUR poor defensive play or because your linemate gave up the puck to the opposition two feet in front of the net. Are you in the red because your goaltender can't stop a beach ball?

If +/- said something for defensive play, then none of our Dmen would be in the black.
