Brian Burke has wasted little time making his first move as President and general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Sources tell TSN Burke has requested permission from the Anaheim Ducks to speak to Dave Nonis about a management position in Toronto.

Well that didn't take long!! :scared:

I believe his contract forbids him from player trades w/ Anaheim for 6 months. I don't have a quote or backup on this, it's just how I interpreted what I've read/seen.

Bet he could exercise a loophole with a three-way trade.

I'm sick of this guy and his neverending parade of using loopholes in contracts

or overtreading GM good habits while whining when someone else does it for

good reason

I'd still say no if I was the Ducks.

The gull of Burke, I mean hasn't he messed with the Ducks enough this year??

They can't. Nonis has a clause in his contract that allows him to leave without permission (48 hours notice is required) if he is offered a job as an Assistant GM or GM with another NHL team.

Okay, that makes a little more sense.

So basically he'd have to become an assistant GM for the Leafs in order for this to work.

Yeah, apparently his title will be Assistant GM & Senior Vice President, not that it really matters a whole lot. He will also get a similar clause with the Leafs that allows him to move laterally or into a GM's position with another team.

Burke was on the radio today and said he'd like to get the deal done with Nonis tomorrow while they're both in Southern California.
