Guest mindfly Report post Posted December 10, 2008 Yeah, but we have Tom McCollum, an outstanding OHL goaltender at 19 of age, so what's your point? The Red Wings had their choice between the two and decided that McCollum was the better goaltender. We don't have to draft a player just because they're Swedish. Anyway, I'm sure the Red Wings stand behind their decision, as they've already signed McCollum (and the Red Wings rarely sign a player before his old contract runs out, and McCollum's had a few more years left), so I think that speaks volumes. SEL has been the 2nd best league in the wordl, now probably 3rd after NHL and KHL, Markstrom facing more skilled players and a better league... he's ALOT better than McCollum, he STEAL games every other game. Opie 308 Report post Posted December 10, 2008 Trust me, he's been working with his feet for three years and they have come up with nothing, if he makes a comeback.. again, it will probably be "EPIC FAIL" 14 points in 9 games is not an epic failure! Neither were his 5 points in 7 playoff games!
Guest mindfly Report post Posted December 10, 2008 Epic fail considering what he could produce statistically if his feet and groins and body overall were what they used to be.
Opie 308 Report post Posted December 10, 2008 Epic fail considering what he could produce statistically if his feet and groins and body overall were what they used to be. Hey if my groins were what they once were I bet my G/F would be a whole hell of a lot happier, but that doesn't make me an epic fail, please say it doesn't! DatsyukownzU13 1 Report post Posted December 10, 2008 We missed Enstrom and Edler too, but i think there was a reason for both stated in articles somewhere. We drafted Frazen instead of Edler (well he was taken in that round at least), so I'm content with that one. Enstrom pulled a Z and D and slipped by a lot of people (though I think he's a little overrated to be honest).
unkempt 0 Report post Posted December 11, 2008 While Hakan Andersson has been stellar with his euro drafting, there are two examples that are missed oppurtunities from the Wings. First of all is Patrik Berglund. He is the real deal in Blues, and I read a story that Wings just missed this guy. Then we have Jacob Markstrom, an outstanding SEL goaltender at 18 years old age. Wings passed him over as well in the 08 draft. Only hindsight is 20/20 ...

12Newf 0 Report post Posted December 11, 2008 We missed Enstrom and Edler too, but i think there was a reason for both stated in articles somewhere. at least in 03 the year of enstrom we got quincey, howard and oulahen so it wasnt all bad. as for edler i very often laugh at my canucks fan friends for jumping the gun and saying the wings blew it because we got franzen. p.s. for those who dont remember, hakkan andersson didnt want to drive like 6 hours to see edler if he wasnt going to dress so he made an uncharacteristic mistake and called the coach to ask and the coach promptly called every other scout to tell them the wings' super scout was interested. Hockeytown Red Wings 245 Report post Posted December 11, 2008 Name calling is against the rules on this forum. Mods might wanna check into this. Haha, don't tell on us! We'll do anything! Honestly, I was a jerk to you for no reason. So my sincere apologies, I just fail to see what the point is of reviewing all these missed draft picks because any team could say it about almost any pick. IrishWing19 6 Report post Posted December 11, 2008 I don't understand why you're complaining, the Wings can't draft everyone. Every team in the league has draft regrets but Detroit has done well, every other team in the league wishes they could have drafted Datsyuk or Zetterberg, especially since they had multiple chances to so. The only recent regret is that the Wings somehow missed Lundqvist, but you win some, you lose some. By your reasoning Holland should be fired for having missed out on Malkin or Ovechkin. If you want perfection, feel free to go look and be disappointed forever. If you've become so spoiled by this team's success and drafting that you must bring up points such as this one, you're utterly hopeless.
