Doggy 130 Report post Posted December 15, 2008 Actually one record that is probably only important to Sharks fans, which is probably more relevant then the 50pts. The Sharks have not lost in regulation at home since mid February last year. Something like 28 games in a row. I believe they only have 3 OTL's during that period. That rocks in my book. Going to a Sharks game at the Tank is always a blast. Great place to see a game if you have never been. They lost plenty of home games in the playoffs last year. Lol. Great place to see a game if you have never been. i wouldn't mind, i'm not too far. the sharks are actually a team i've respected facing in the playoffs. they play hard but don't goon it up so much if they're down and out (like the ducks, flames, nashville, etc.). they are a team to be reckoned with. they look a little like last year's wings except younger, faster, perhaps hungrier, and a hell of a lot bigger. So in what way do they look like the Wings? Edited December 15, 2008 by Doggy
Guest nutz2u Report post Posted December 15, 2008 February 7, 2008 Wings lost to the LA Kings and then never won another game in the month of February losing 11 straight games so teams coming down to earth should be very fresh in our memories.............. Guest GordieSid&Ted Report post Posted December 15, 2008 (edited) Don't forget the Senators from last year. Also, I think we would know more than anyone that a team is judged by their playoff performance; the season doesn't mean crap in the long run. LOL. That's the funny thing about this board. If we were 28-0 people would be saying we're the s***, give us the cup, yet you'd still find many, many long-time Wings fans who will stand up and say, "hold your horses" the regular season doesn't mean dick. It's all about the playoffs. Why is that funny to me? B/c now, when things aren't going 100% perfectly, all of a sudden the regular season is the most important thing in the world and is a tell tale sign of what to expect in the playoffs. Wings fans ought to be smart enough to know that by and large the regular season doesn't tell you s*** in regards to whether being #1 overall means you win the cup or being #8 overall means you have zero shot of getting anywhere in the playoffs. Bottom line, we're winning in the regular season and we're not doing it pretty. But just like when we looked like regular season powerhouses only to lose in the first round, I don't put a whole lot of stock into regular season play in fecking December. Guest Shoreline Report post Posted December 15, 2008 I'd say it will be obvious pretty early on Thursday if the Wings decide to show up. Couple seasons ago the Wings showed up early, went out to a 4-0 or 4-1 lead. Lost 9-4.

sergei_is_still_a_wing 1 Report post Posted December 15, 2008 (edited) i'll be shocked if the sharks make it past round 2. why you ask? because i can't recall without looking it up last time they did it. they ALWAYS look great in the regular season. and they are a great hockey club, no doubt there. but the real test rolls around in june and thus far, the sharks have C/C+'s in the last few seasons. hence the reason i still think the wings are in great position to make a cup run (reg season dont mean jack once you make the playoffs...) Guest Shoreline Report post Posted December 15, 2008 I thought they made the conference finals before they got Thornton. Just off the top of my head, I thought they played the Flames a few seasons back for the right to play in the cup finals, and were one game away in the Earthquake series against the Avs from facing this team in the conf finals instead of seeing Roy's "statue of liberty". Doc Holiday 0 Report post Posted December 15, 2008 The Wings have been there before but all it takes is one year to win it all. I think once people give up on the Sharks' chances in the postseason they will win it.
AtomicPunk 296 Report post Posted December 15, 2008 So is there a statement to be made by what goalie starts this game? They will both be rested enough...no back to back game excuse...just thinking. Do you think they are building it up like it is a big "test" game? (Not trying to bring a goalie controversy into the thread)...
chrisdetroit 189 Report post Posted December 15, 2008 http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/recap?gameId=281213018 wow. that's pretty substantial. all this team does is win (convincingly). i'd say the sharks are officially scary. there can be little doubt that they are head and shoulders above the rest of the league so far this season. First of all, until a few years ago, there were no points for shootout or overtime losses so it's not a fair comparison. Secondly they are only a measly 4 points ahead of Boston and only 6 ahead of the Wings. Sorry but that doesn't qualify them to be "head and shoulders above the rest of the league"

I see a cause for Sharks fans to be optimistic for this but hell it's proven time and time again the regular season and postseason are like two different seasons. Zetterling 16 Report post Posted December 15, 2008 Perhaps the Sharks are experiencing the "Red Wing effect." I looked at the teams they have played and they haven't played many difficult teams. Teams like Dallas, the Ducks and the Kings are like the Wings easy central division foes of the past. The Shark's style of hockey has also changed a lot from their past years, so teams that play them for the first time are surprised. Also, the Sharks have only had one 3 game road trip so far. Nevertheless the team looks really motivated. The come from behind win against the blues after being down 3-1 was impressive.
