rrasco 1,312 Report post Posted December 14, 2011 (edited) See, this is what drives me nuts about getting a point for an OTL. Chicago is 18-8-4 with 40 pts while the Wings are 19-9-1 with 39 pts. Chicago leads the division. Chicago has lost 2 more games than the Wings and won 1 less, yet they are ahead in the standings because 4 of their losses came in extra time. stevkrause 1,247 Report post Posted December 14, 2011 Either: 1) Bring back the regulation-time tie game or 2) Play overtime until there's a winner; five-on-five. Save the shootout for the ASG. You'd be surprised how quickly the millionaires will want to end the games ASAP. Ties suck and you can't play forever in the regular season... Don't be ridiculous.. Doc Holliday 1,888 Report post Posted December 14, 2011 (edited) Make it based on wins and losses. Fewer games, and sudden death overtime. No back to back games. Makes the regular season mean more and gives the fans a chance to see a multi-OT thriller without having to pay exorbitant prices for playoff tickets. stevkrause 1,247 Report post Posted December 14, 2011 (edited) Two of the current four major sports, as well as myself, disagree. And not a single other one of the professional sports has the same physical demand and schedule combined as the NHL Edited December 14, 2011 by stevkrause
Crashnburnluder 385 Report post Posted December 14, 2011 The easiest way to solve it while adding excitement is going with 2 points for a win, 0 for a loss (no matter when it happens) As for overtime... 5 minutes of 4 on 4 and 5 minutes of 3 on 3. I gurentee you that there will be very few games making The Shootout with that system and if they do what's the harm. If you think 4 on 4 hockey is exciting and makes more chances wait for all the break aways and 2 on 1's in 3 on 3. More games will end as a team game and not come down to a shoot out. My other favorite idea about the 3 on 3 just imagine the head to head matchups. Datsyuk/Z and lids against Crosby/Malkin/ letang... The Sedins/ and elder... Ovie/backstrom/ green... Getzlaf/perry/ fowler?... Toews/Kane/keith.... Talk about exciting!
