Wings Fans at Away Games...

Rate this topic

Lived in Detroit for 35 years and now I live out of state, but would love to take a few road trips to see the Wings especially on West Coast swings... are there clubs or groups that travel to the Wings road games and sit together?

I did a couple Google searches and have not found what I am looking for...

Anyone have any knowledge on this one?

i really dont know the answer to your question.. but wanted to chime in to the topic.

has anyone noticed just how much red wings presence there has been this year on the road then in other years.. like this year has been insane as far as "lets go red wings" chants everywhere they play! from colorado, florida, tb, boston, last night in LA .. its almost become a fad to be a red wings fan this year. I LOVE IT btw!

That is why I would really like to find a way to be a part of those big pockets of people cheering for the Wings... I love it!

The thing I think is hilarious is the way the LA fans (insert any team we play on the road) chanting "Red Wings Suck!" instead of "Go Kings Go!" They don't seem to do that at the JLA as far as I can remember, but all over the league you hear it when the Wings are in town.

Well after Rhode Island, Michigan is the only other state to lose population last year and has been losing huge amounts over the past 3 years. So RWN has spread out heavily.

You might try googling Red Wing For'em Club. They are, I believe, the oldest fan club in the NHL. Founded in the 1950s, they used to do road trips. Not sure if they still do. There was also a weekender travel group that I went on in Jan. 2000. For around $1,000, we flew from Windsor to Toronto, then on to Calgary. From there we took a bus to Edmonton. Saw a game against the Oilers, stayed the night, then went to Banff for another day and night. In Banff my buddy and I went dogsledding. The next day, went back to Calgary, saw a game in the Saddledome. We then flew to Vancouver, stayed there three nights, and saw the Wings/Canucks. In the Calgary airport, I met Randy Bachman, who was going home after a benefit concert in TO. I would lve to do that trip again. The Wings went 0-1-2(ties), but still a great time. Banff was awesome.

That is more what I am looking for... thanks!

The Redmond Tours are not really what I was looking for. I would like to go on an extended trip and hang with other Wings fans on the road and sit with them during the game, plus hang in some new cool places. Would love to go to Vancouver along with some of the Cali and maybe Phoenix.

I suspect the seeds of Red Wings Nation were laid back in the 1970s when the Rust Belt crashed for the first time. Michigan's been losing a lot of high skills white collar types to other parts of the country ever since, and for those of us who grew up in the Stevie Y. era, the Wings will always be our team, wherever else we've ended up in our lives.

You nailed it... The Captain will always be my favorite sports hero. I hope he can find a way to stick with the Wings for a very long time.

It has been AWESOME this year. Here in Buffalo, they always talk about how this is "the real Hockeytown" and how Detroit games always have empty seats, but the game we went to last year had a TON of fans wearing the Winged Wheel. Good stuff!

Yeah, it is REALLY dumb hearing "Red Wings suck!" coming from Kings fans. They've been doing that for years though. Same organ tune. Same stupid chant.

Lets Go Wings music
