Rice 42 Report post Posted January 29, 2009 No he doesn't. Not even close. In fact, Filppula as a third year player hasn't shown the same level of talent that Datsyuk and Zetterberg did as rookies. Since when were Datsyuk and Zetterberg the performance benchmarks for young players? Not everyone can be a franchise player. Filppula's peak potential is probably second-line center. Datsyuk and Zetterberg are top-10 players in the world. Apples and oranges.
Ms_Hockey 0 Report post Posted January 29, 2009 Yup, please see a guy like Ryan Smyth who loved playing in Edmonton and had big time emotional ties and still decided to leave. IMO Hossa will not even be close to the same negotiating that Smyth had. What it's sounding like based on what people on LGW are saying (haven't found much to back it up but I'll take the word for now) is that Franzen is way more about the money than Hossa is. We could very well end up letting Franzen go and keeping Hossa. I just don't think Hossa would be willing to take THAT much of a pay cut to do it. Either way we go though, we have a winning team.
