Hello apples, I would like you to meet oranges. I doubt you could get ONE hockey analyst to side with you on who they would rather have on their roster for the playoffs. You could make the argument that the Mule has been THE most valuable/clutch forward for the wings in the last two years. Sorry, but Huds wouldn't even be in the argument for top 4 on this team. I hate to say it, but this argument has probably been settled. Love both guys, but Mule ( and wings management obviously agrees) has proven to be the more valuable piece to the puzzle. Again, not saying I don't like huds, and I would hate to lose him.....but it is pretty obvious who needed to be signed first. Looks like the wings made the right choice. Again. Opie 308 Report post Posted May 12, 2009 In five years when Huds is 30 and Mule is 35 are we then going to rehash this argument and only compare that post season's stats?? I mean hell playing Pro hockey for extra 5 years probably hasn't helped him at all. These who is the better wing is Stupid! I repeat my statement from the other Red Wing vs Red Wing thread: This is like saying who is the best Beastie Boy: MCA MOFOS! ohh sorry I meant Mike D, No I mean Ad Rock, No dats, No Mule, No Hudler, No Zetterberg, Nope it is Biz Markie, FTW! Guest GordieSid&Ted Report post Posted May 12, 2009 Offensively, Hudler is light years better than Franzen. He has a better shot, better stick skills, and he might be the best pure passer on the team. Franzen is a better hitter and defender, but that's about it. I think you are forgetting who these guys play against. No way on God's green Earth that Hudler can match up against the top lines of opposing teams. It's one thing to measure somebody's shot velocity or how fast they skate around the rink. It's another to watch it unfold on the ice where it really matters. Seriously, Franzen has been the offensive juggernaut the likes of which haven't been seen in my lifetime. Or at least in the past 15 years that I can recall. The guy is nearly a goal/game player in the playoffs. It's sick. It's ridiculous. It's unheard of. I like Hudler's ability. But I don't like him on this team. He fit nicely with his skill set. But the Wings are already the softest, smallest team in the league and Hudler is one of the smallest players. Whereas Mule is one of our biggest players and one of most formidable power forwards going right now in the entire league. Franzen can match up against Cory Perry. He can Match up against Calgary's top D pairing. He can go head to head against Dion Phaneuf. He can protect the puck and get into the high traffic areas to score. Hudler can't. That is a fact. Hudler spends the majority of his time on the perimeter because he is too small and too weak to battle in front of the net and in the slot. This team needs players like Franzen desperately. A big guy with soft hands. Are they growing these guys on ******* trees or something? There are 29 other teams in the league and if you gave them a choice of Hudler or Franzen, salary notwithstanding, you're going to have 29 teams pick Franzen. Hand down! Salary issues are something to be considered. But Franzen is still a better goal scorer. I don't care about ice time projections like Eva does. That doesn't mean s*** to me as to what a guy "might" do. Hudler is small and weak. Franzen is a beast and a better two-way player. Go ahead and stick Hudler on the 1st or 2nd line with no big body to support him and watch him get worked. There is a reason why Mike Babcock has Franzen on the top lines and NOT Hudler. There is a reason why Hudler only has 1, 20+ goal season and Franzen has 1 and a 30+ goal season as well. There is a reason why Franzen 20 goals in his last 25 playoff games and Hudler has 8 career playoff goals. Franzen is built like an NHL player should be. Franzen is built for playoff hockey. Hudler is a shifty, albeit relatively slow skater with fantastic instincts. But instincts don't mean s*** if you can't battle through traffic when need be. Franzen's goal against Montreal, his goals against Calgary, the goals he's scored on Hiller show he has the hands, the moves, the strength and ability to drive to the net, battle in front of the net and create goals in ways Hudler cannot. What has Hudler done? Shown off his hand-eye coordination by batting a puck out of the air with no Ducks anywhere around him last game? Pfftt....Franzen's tip in goal the game prior was better. Fighting through traffic and tipping Kronner's shot after it went through 2 defenders. No way Hudler gets to that spot on the ice. He can't. Franzen = WAY MORE EFFECTIVE NHLer than Hudler. If Hudler was better he'd be playing alongside Hossa or Zetterberg all the time. He's not and I pity the day he does because we're all going to be crying in our beers over the loss of Mule
