lets go pavel 2 Report post Posted February 17, 2009 bleh. Crosby threads....goalie threads.....both seem to get equally out of hand and equally retarded. We should trade Ozzie and Flip for Crosby and alternate him between goal and defense ... then we'd only need 1 thread in the forums!
ben_usmc 253 Report post Posted February 17, 2009 honestly who gives a s*** about the Pens and Crosby. We know the league loves him, but we won the cup guys move on we have bigger fish to fry (sharks) this year, and bigger holes that need to be filled (ozzy), ok I'm done with that. But seriously we don't have to worry about seeing the Pens in the finals so who cares, I'm actually more bothered with the hard on the world has for Boston, when they get to play so many scrub teams. Wing vs. Bruins SCF would be friggin' awesome though. Especially if we hand them their asses and put them firmly back on the ground where they belong. The Beantown fans think they will be taking our toy from us but they will have to cherish their Presidents trophy because I don't think they can hang with the Elite for 7 games. Ms_Hockey 0 Report post Posted February 17, 2009 Yeah, that's true, though teams can only send their best checkers out against one of them, provided that they're on separate lines. I'd wager that Crosby probably gets them. I'll also say that Crosby needs linemates to put the puck in the net, and Malkin has more natural goal scoring ability and can produce more by himself. I think it's also pretty safe that Crosby hasn't been 100% healthy lately. I think Crosby tries to be a little more physical than he should be. He's a far better finesse player, in my opinion. He should leave the glove dropping to other people on the team. That said, I'm interested to see where the new coach takes the Pens. I feel about the Pens the way I felt about the Sharks years ago. Tons of potential - poor management and utilization of that potential.
Ms_Hockey 0 Report post Posted February 17, 2009 Where do you find a number that is being hyped that Crosby should be living up to? Isn't he the second line Centre in Pittsburgh? and isn't he in the top 3 in points and assists? He is producing quite well despite the fact he isn't running miles ahead of everyone. He is ahead in points and assists from all of our stars isn't he? He is also playing on a struggling team and still doing that. Not sure how much more people expect of him really? His short career has been phenominal to say the least. He has been absolute consistency since starting in the league. I think people expect more out of Crosby simply because he's the face of the NHL. He's been compared to the Great One, for pete's sake. That doesn't mean I agree with these attitudes.. just that when someone is publicized that much, I can understand where more would be expected of him. Any comparison to Gretzky is absurd and unfair, so there's no reason for him to take flak for that.

Well, they had it in guys like Malone, Roberts & Laraque.....Eric Godard can't play a regular shift in the NHL, so he can't really do that work for Crosby. Ms_Hockey 0 Report post Posted February 17, 2009 (edited) I don't. Any comparison to Gretzky is absurd and unfair, so there's no reason for him to take flak for that. I agree that it's unfair - but I'm not the one who made the comparison. There are a lot of people who are offended that Crosby is the poster boy of the NHL.. simply because there's plenty of other players in the league who have given their heart and soul to the NHL and they feel like they're being pushed aside for it. But let's face it - part of this strategy is to attract newcomers to the NHL, is it not? When someone directly compares Crosby to Gretzky, what do you think those projected newcomers are going to expect from him? Yeah, well, thems the breaks. I've said it before -- the NBA has LeBron, the NFL has Peyton, the NHL has Sid. You can't very well promote every good player in the league. But let's face it - part of this strategy is to attract newcomers to the NHL, is it not? When someone directly compares Crosby to Gretzky, what do you think those projected newcomers are going to expect from him? With all due respect to new fans of the game, I don't really care what they think or expect. Once they've had the opportunity to learn and understand the game, I'm sure most would come to recognize Crosby's skills just the same.
Guest CaliWingsNut Report post Posted February 18, 2009 (edited) Ohh come on... I barely even mentioned sid. The point had little to do with sidney or the penguins for that matter, but rather the hyping of a losing team over a team whom when they win it is news. I love being called names for words that were put in my mouth Edited February 18, 2009 by CaliWingsNut
