miller76 463 Report post Posted February 22, 2009 I know there was a little bit of hype with Mats Sundin returning to Toronto as a Canuck this week. Like many others I was pretty tired of the Sundin saga all summer and fall of 2008. But could you have scripted this any better. This is a HNIC clip from tonights (Saturday) game. For those of you who missed this.

dat's sick 1,002 Report post Posted February 22, 2009 Good to see there is no hate for mats in TO. Good fans in TO. There was actually some boo's whenever he touched the puck, atleast in the beginning of the game. The whole standing ovation and the cheers after he won the shoot-out was pretty touching though. adtthosa 5 Report post Posted February 22, 2009 Anyone who watches the Leafs regularly knew that this was a predictable finish, haha. I called Sundin for the shootout winner before the third period.

I really liked how the ACC erupted with cheers, as their team just lost! Its like the outcome of the game didn't matter. It was all about Sundin.

The whole standing ovation and the cheers after he won the shoot-out was pretty touching though. I thought it was fitting. He got booed as a little F-you for how everything went down in the past 12 months, but then a sincere thank-you for everything he did in 13 years in Toronto. mjlegend 155 Report post Posted February 23, 2009 This has been beaten to death, but imagine the reception had he waived his no-trade clause and accepted a deal to a contender for a pick and prospects instead of taking a free agent deal the next year? They might not be 14 points out of the playoffs right now if he'd done that and be playing meaningful hockey right now instead of this multi-year rebuilding plan they're in.
