Canadian_Yzerman_Fan 7 Report post Posted March 1, 2009 With the recent loss of ATDHE and Justin.tv for watching Wings games online I am looking for other ways to see the games (since I'm an out of town'er like many). NHL.com's pricing is too much and I've heard bad things about the quality and reliability, but this site is considerably cheaper so I though it may be worthwhile to spend the few bucks and not have to miss half of the first period every night trying to find a stream (and the ones that do come up typically suck) I was just wondering if anyone on here has been using HockeyStreams.com and how legit they are. - Are they legally operating or might they be shut down soon too? - They have two options for streaming quality - How far apart are they? - Does it ever lag? - Any other problems? I'd just like a bit of user feedback if anyone can offer some before I give them my credit card info. Any help would be great. Thanks!
Guest Four Report post Posted March 1, 2009 (edited) ATDHE stills shows hockey games, don't pull the trigger just yet. *I think anyway, since they had 4 NHL games on last night* Edited March 1, 2009 by Four
Mike 0 Report post Posted March 1, 2009 (edited) HockeyStreams is not legally operating and didn't they receive a cease and desist order from the NHL not too long ago? I also heard that they just link you to ATDHE streams, but that could have been a load of crap. Edited March 1, 2009 by Mike
Heroes of Hockeytown 694 Report post Posted March 1, 2009 (edited) ATDHE was streaming the games that were already free and available on Yahoo, and the games that were on CBC that night for some reason, not sure what the deal was with those. Guest mindfly Report post Posted March 1, 2009 ATDHE only show the games that are on yahoo (700kbps wmp streams) the flash streams straight off center ice (1200kbps HD) are illegal and therefore they stopped streaming them
Glubki 17 Report post Posted March 1, 2009 The basic stream at hockeystreams.com sucks... If you get it I'd go with the HD and pay with a credit card so you can dispute the charge if they get shut down because I don't believe they have a license agreement. Canadian_Yzerman_Fan 7 Report post Posted March 1, 2009 I've also contacted them with some of my questions... I'll post their response as soon as I get it. But I'd still like to hear from someone that uses/has used their site
Blazer 0 Report post Posted March 1, 2009 (edited) How about downloading games? I'm using www.cifnation.com, apart from an incredibly avid capping community, its also a pretty good hockeyboard in general. Its also very international, due to the mass need for streaming / downloading options for us europeean fans. I think I've only missed 2-3 Red Wings games this season, the rest I've been able to download, and fairly quick too, often I get to download and watch the game before the next sets of games starts. For example, the LA game I was able to watch before the Predators game started. Which I watched earlier today. Last years playoffs I watched almost every game from every series, just missed a few in the first round (figures with 4-7 games in 8 playoff series). Its also spoiler free (except for what commentators and update bars in the game tell you). There's also a good streams at www.streamtvnow.tv, quite cheap too, only $20 USD for 135 days. Allthough its harder to watch Red Wings games there, due to the fact that the streaming is done by private contributors, and they only stream what they want to stream. But if you're desperate it can save your day. I rarely ever have to though, thanks to cifnation.com Hope this helps! Edit: $20 USD for 135 day subscription, 14 days, 30 days etc..are incrementally cheapier. Edited March 1, 2009 by Blazer
Canadian_Yzerman_Fan 7 Report post Posted March 1, 2009 Thanks Blazer! that does help! I'll look into that too HockeyStreams.com emailed me back already: Hello, We operate outside of the NHL\'s legal jurisdiction. Thus, we are not bound by their copyright. The difference between the HQ and HD is tremendous. If you have sufficient internet for the HD streams (>1000KBps) I would recommend opting to go with that as the HD streams are TV quality. Like any website with streaming media lag may pop up here and there but rest assured its an extremely rare occurance. There is no cancellation charges as you are not bound by your subscription. It is your option to decide how long you\'d like to subscribe for at a time. Thanks, Jason Bernard so apparently operating out of the netherlands makes them immune to copyright laws?? also, there doesn't seem to be any trial offer to test the quality, and there is no refund available if you are dissatisfied with their service, you just have the option to not renew the term that you are then stuck with. Thanks, Jason Bernard Hi, I am a memeber of the hockeystreams web site and have been there all season with No problems I like the service they have. The person that runs the web site has told me when I want to sign up is to do this, do a 1 day offer and if you like it then sign up for the package you like and he will send you a credit back of the 1 day offer you did. That is what he did for me when I want to see how the web site was and also to see the video The web site has 3 differnt views HQ, HD ,HDplus if I was you I would get the HD packege and you get teh HDplus with it and if there are some little problems during the game there is somone on the chat room there to fix it so apparently operating out of the netherlands makes them immune to copyright laws?? also, there doesn't seem to be any trial offer to test the quality, and there is no refund available if you are dissatisfied with their service, you just have the option to not renew the term that you are then stuck with. Not flash streams directly from NHL Center Ice, they probably will host the yahoo games on their site though, which are usually 2 games per night or so

Tane 17 Report post Posted March 2, 2009 Been With Hockey Streams all year. Only had a few ,minor problems, and when I did, there was always someone there to fix it. Even if the problem was on MY end, and not theirs. He'd still walk me through everything I needed to do. I'd recommend going with the HD feed. I go HQ, but I'm not a quality freak. It's not terrible, but if i buy again, I'm going HD.

DyingAlive 27 Report post Posted March 2, 2009 Hockeystreams is pretty good. The other s*** is to unreliable, you miss too many games and for some reason HS always shows the FSD feed and almost never the other teams. Agreed, I love hockey streams. I only have the HQ membership because I didn't feel like paying the money and I have no issue with watching the games. I believe one of the moderators on the site is a Red Wings fan and always puts up the FSD feeds and sometimes even the pregame and post game. For me personally, HS is a great value. I don't always have the time to watch the games live. Their archive feature is a life save. I have probably watched more games via archive the next day then their live streams. For that in itself it is worth the buy.
