Reilly 24 Report post Posted March 2, 2009 European Puck: Final Stats From the Czech and Slovak Extraligas By Jeff Z. Klein The big story in Middle Europe in the regular season just completed was Žiggy Pálffy, the 36-year-old winger who had 12 fine seasons in the N.H.L. Playing for his hometown club, Skalica, he just won his second straight Slovakian scoring title — and in terrific style. His 52 goals and 99 points in just 53 games was by far the tops in Europe. Two players from champions Slavia Prague led the Czech Extraliga in scoring and plus/minus: Jaroslav Bednář, the 32-year-old who has starred in the Czech Republic, Finland and Russia with stops in L.A. and Florida; and Roman Červenka, the 23-year-old who just completed his breakout season. http://slapshot.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/03/...vak-extraligas/ Such a wonderful player to watch. Had a laser of shot, too. Too bad he could never stay 100% his entire career.

VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted March 2, 2009 Very cool. I think a lot of players when leaving the NHL should go to other leagues. A mediocre NHL player can be elite in another league. Always liked Palffy though.

P. Marlowe 748 Report post Posted March 2, 2009 He retired from NHL in January 2006 because of a shoulder injury and was out of pro hockey for 1,5 years. In his last 10 seasons in NHL he was under a point-per-game player only once. He scored over 43 goals three times while playing his whole career in bad teams (NYI, LA and PIT). Yeah, I recall that he bugged out a few times, and was resurrected from the dead (well, Europe) to come play for PIT. Then he left again. But he was always a dominant scorer, he just didn't tend to play on high-profile teams (PIT was still pretty bad when he was there, too).
