the problem is, you don't get the "must win" mentality until you're in an elimination game.

You could easily be right. But by the same token, the Wings are heavily experienced in playoff runs. They may be able to feel that "must win" urge before elimination game because they've been down that road before.

This game made me sad in my heart. Or maybe my left lung, whatever- I'm not a professor of anatomy.

Here's hoping the Wings come out swinging and dominate in the playoffs! :octo:

GO WINGS! :champs:

Also, on an unrelated note- I found a sperm emoticon: :balloon:

There's a difference between confidence and faith. I may not like the way the team played today or even in most games this season, but the fact remains that we're still one of the best teams on the league. I know that we're capable of more - and so do the players. And I have faith that we can tap into that.

Every important meaningful game this year, the Wings have played great. Osgood has played great in most of his last few games and the Defense has definitely stepped it up the last week or two.

It just amazes me that people watched the last few meaningless games and drew any conclusions from them.

The last two games meant everything to Chicago. They had to prove that they could beat the Wings after losing the first 4 of the season series. Great for them, they proved that they can hang with the Wings when the games don't mean anything.

I have complete confidence and faith in the Wings. They have shown that when the games are important, nobody can beat them. I expect a long playoff run. I really don't care how they did in the unimportant games.

And if I'm wrong, all the pessimists can walk around and say "I told you so". But I guarntee that I will enjoy the playoffs more that them....

Who cares about this game, it's all about the playoffs now. When games matter, the Red Wings play.

I love the way people just believe all of sudden in a few days we're gonna start tearing teams apart. Not gonna happen.

It was fairly obvious (to me, at least) that priority #1 tonight was that everyone skates away healthy at the end of 60 minutes.

That pretty much sums it up from what I saw. I expected nothing more, nothing less. Objective reached, now into the playoffs. Too bad it frightens fans, but face it: no team can take unnecessary risks and knock itself senseless, just so that it can calm the fears of some skiddish fans. Screw them, and their fears. Stay focused, and pace yourself for the upcoming games that actually do mean something.

The only remaining game I have any interest in at all today is the St. Louis/Colorado game coming up, because that one affects the pairing of no less than six teams in the Western Conference, including St. Louis, who is going to face the Sharks if they don't pull off a solid win. That game should be interesting, to say the least!

Crappy Regular Season...

<grumblegrumble>

Flip, and Oz showed up today. That's about it. Cheli looked pretty good, too.

Other than that? Not much good to take outta this one.

I hope that Lilja comes back before too long, (hey.....Franzenstein did it.....maybe Lils can, too), because while Ericsson is a big body, and definitely looks like the future...

The future is not here. Not yet.

The kid looks lost out there at times, and he's not quite familiar with either his Teammates OR the System just yet. His (poor) communication has led to some real interesting moments these past few games, and not in a "good" way, either.

Bring on the Play Offs.

Go, Wings! GO!

let's hope. they clearly have the talent and know-how do go all the way. it just worries how lackluster they've been this year. i just hope i see them balls-to-the-wall game one. if they lose, fine, just give it everything they have.

I'm with you on this completely. I think some people just let the anger and frustration of losing cloud their knowledge that we ARE one of the best teams in the league - hands down. Sure, I've seen games where I've been really upset with the Wings' performance, but that's hockey isn't it? You can't win them all and Lord knows you can't hold the momentum for the entire season. That's just how the game goes.

It's weird how we just had a season of 50+ wins and the only games I remember are the losses. Doesn't it seem like there's no way we could have had 50 wins?

Well, no more excuses. Next week we find out what this team is really made of. I can't wait. I hope we start Thursday because I am working Wednesday night.

hahahaha...A typical LGW poster...only remebers the losses.

How bout the December 30th 4-0 shutout of the Blackhawks when they were telling the world that they felt like the Boston Celtics

How bout the Winter Classic on national tv when the Wings scored 5 straight goals

Or the 6-0 demolition of the world's best San Jose Sharks

Or the follow-up 4-1 drubbing of the Stanley Cup favored Sharks

Or the shutout of the Great Cindy Crosby lead team on national tv on their home ice

I feel sorry for you, you missed the best parts....

Exactly. I truly believe that if we get kicked out of the playoffs, it won't be because we're playing the way we did today. It'll be because tried and got out-played anyway.

Let's keep our fingers crossed for the playoffs. Neither one of us can know until then!

Going into the playoffs losin 2 to the Blackhawks and winning 3 out of last 10 does not leave me with a good feeling in my stomach.

Questionable goaltending and defense, injuries to Lilja, Draper and Hossa.

Long travel to the Pond, which IMHO is the 2nd worst place to play in the league for the Wings (behind the Saddledome). We'll draw more terrible refs and the Ducks will hook, interfere and 'goon it up' with impunity.

I hope all you 'silver-lining' people are correct.

I'll root as hard as I can, and spend all of my spare money on beer at the bars during the games, but as of right now I'm feeling trepidatious.

Agreed- the Blues/Dives game should be exciting.

hmm.

LOL sorry I just didn't want to get into it. We've had these arguments time and time again and we both know how we feel about it. I'm overly positive, you see things differently and so on...

I love the way people just believe all of sudden in a few days we're gonna start tearing teams apart. Not gonna happen.

Like I've said earlier this week, the last few weeks or games of the season does not in anyway reflect on what is going to be done in the playoffs. The post season is *completely* different. It's not about suddenly tearing teams apart, but you can bet that the Wings will turn it on and definitely up their game.

They've had nothing to play for in the last 5 or so games. Their spot was clinched and they weren't in the running for the Presidents trophy. Yeah it'd be great if they won more, but can you really blame a team for not giving it their all in meaningless games? All that matters is that no one got hurt.

Kinda funny though I bet if the Wings won tonight and blasted the Hawks those on here that are pissing and moaning would be all "WOOO WINGS WON, TIME FOR THE PLAYOFFS." "WE ARE TOTALLY READY!!!!1111"

I'm sorry, but there's no way that merely adding Lidstrom (our best defenseman) and Hossa (our leading goal scorer), not to mention Draper (our face-off specialist) is going to turn this around. We are a terrible team, we have no desire to win a Stanley Cup, and word on the street is we are lazy and suck. Babcock has no experience getting a team deep in the playoffs and Osgood has literally choked *every* time he's played in the post season. I say we just quit now. Why embarrass ourselves by playing in the playoffs? Every one knows we are just going to get swept.

Hahahaha. You're about to be welcomed with open arms by about 80% of the people on this site who think that if the Wings don't win, they should hang up the skates and drive off a cliff.

Post of the day. Furreal.

Im talking about the team on a whole and their performance through the entire season. The goaltending and defence just hasnt been there, and so many games we've relied of pure offensive skill to win games. If our offense doesnt get it going then its at least nice to know that there is defensive and goaltending ability to keep the team in the game. I dont feel we have that.
