Vincanni 1 Report post Posted April 30, 2009 Awesome and well deserved honor, but I really don't see him having much a shot to win it. Best all-around player for sure, but I can't build an argument that makes him more valuable to his team than Ovechkin is to Washington
RedWingedKitten 9 Report post Posted April 30, 2009 WHAT!?!?! Don told me Euros have no hart! I mean heart... <3 What an amazing year for Pavs. Woot.
WingsZR2 1 Report post Posted April 30, 2009 Pavel Datsyuk is the most complete player in the NHL Bout damn time he gets center stage
Lovin Jiri Fischer 147 Report post Posted April 30, 2009 This is awesome. He truly deserves this. I hoped he wouldn't go unnoticed this year.
Vladiator 116 Report post Posted April 30, 2009 Pavs finally gets the recognition that has deserved for far too long. Best all around player in the league without question. Maybe the voters are starting to figure out that AO's goal celebrations don't make him the best player in the NHL.
Broken 16 381 Report post Posted April 30, 2009 Can't wait to see Pav's rip into the Ducks after this news...
Husker BigGuy 0 Report post Posted April 30, 2009 I trust the Hart Trophy to Pavel Datsyuk. You should too.
T.Low 1,011 Report post Posted April 30, 2009 The Hart Memorial trophy is awarded to the player deemed most valueable to his team. While yes, Pavs is an awesome player and its great that he got nominated top three, Ovie is obviously more valueable to his team than Pavs is to Detroit. You take Pavs off the Wings for a few games and they will do ok. You take Ovie off the Caps for a few games and they got nothing. The trophy should be for best all round player, but technically, its not.

I see quite a bit of value in that...
Phazon 24 Report post Posted April 30, 2009 kinda BS when you think about it though. Lidstrom has never been top3 for Hart.

It's not Pavel's fault that no one on the Caps is good enough to pick up for Ovechkin.
BeeRYCE 2 Report post Posted April 30, 2009 I really hope he gets nominated for Pearson, he has a hell of a chance at winning that. The NHLPA will recognize outstanding he is being nominated for 3 other trophies as well and the all around game he plays. He's not going to win this, unfortunately, but it was good that he was nominated.
egroen 384 Report post Posted April 30, 2009 I hate that the Hart is the most esteemed award for the regular season. Who cares who is most valuable to his team, they have "team" awards for that. I just want to know who the writers feel had the greatest season, period. If the definition of the award was taken literally, every year it would go to a good goalie on a bad team that barely made the playoffs that year. No one was more important to their team than Mason this year - but he was nowhere near the best player in the league. Luckily, the definition is pretty much ignored and Hart goes to arguably the best player each year regardless, but I wish they would chenge the official definition to fit that spirit more. HanKarin40 7 Report post Posted April 30, 2009 This is so great for Pavel! Congrats to him, he totally deserves it! Even though he probably wont win it, I'm sure he feels honored just to be nominated. Go Pav, you're awesome!

Opie 308 Report post Posted April 30, 2009 I agree with Egroen, if taken literally a goalie who gets a weak team to the postseason would win every year. Because if you take out a starting netminder in the NHL the drop off is usually huge to the backup and thus, the starting goaltender on every team would be most valuable on the team. Plus there is only one player per that position at a time, every other position 6-12 people play.
MidMichSteve 1,115 Report post Posted April 30, 2009 He's awesome, and he's ours. It doesn't get much better than this. In a nutshell! My favorite Wing. It's always hysterical when he's pressed along the boards. He dekes, the opponent(s) look sheepish, and he invariably skates away with the puck or makes a perfect pass. Federov is the only other Wings' player that made me sit up whenever he touched the puck.

Kira 451 Report post Posted May 1, 2009 If he were to walk with all three, he'd be the very first player to do that. If he wins the Byng and the Selkie, he'd be on a very short list of players who have done that. And if he wins the Byng for the fourth year in a row, he'll be only the second player in history to do that. It hasn't been done since the '30's. Our Pasha is on the verge of some very historic happenings. I am proud of him, and I think all of us who love the Wings are too. I hope he can do it...I really do. The first thing I though of yesterday was, Don Cherry is gonna have kittens. Then I thought, ask me if I care. Good on you, Pasha!
