Mike Brown's hit on Hudler

I understand the point you are making and I agree with most of it, but you are going a little far if you expect us to believe that you understand EXACTLY what was going on when the incident occurred. We're talking about micro-seconds here and your talking about making a pass, swivel your head and take an ice inventory. Get real.

It doesn't matter if it happened late, early, yesterday or today. The league has made it known that blows to the head will not be tolerated. Period. End of discussion. Just like guys sticks flying into someones face isn't tolerated. Brown f***ed up and paid the price. Moral of the story... make damn sure you don't hit someone in the head or there is a good chance you and your team will pay.

I never said I understood exactly what was going on when the incident occured. I responded to Norrisnick and some old lady telling me I needed to repsond to something he wrote about watching your pass to know where it goes, and thats why Huds got leveled.

My response was that the standard procedure is to pass, then take inventory, then check the status of the puck. I guess I'm not sure what you are referring to when you tell me to "Get real". But thanks for the civil discorse, like most the rest of the people on this forum lately.

I agree he needs to play more like the Ducks, you see how fast Pronger sprung up from that vicious nudge Homer gave him?

I can't speak to pre-2007, the year Hockey was invented, but from what I have seen, Pronger would do anything to get under Homers skin (prat fall or not).

Hudler took inventory before he passed. He was in the clear. Brown was outside the bubble necessary to impact the play Hudler was trying to make. You can't fault Jiri for not expecting Brown to go above and beyond in order to "finish his check" (a check that didn't start until the puck was already gone).

I had no problem with that hit. That's been a clean hit for as long as I have been alive and watching hockey.

If the league wants to ban that kind of hitting that's one thing. But Brown didn't do anything but blow up a guy who wasn't paying attention through the neutral zone. Players have been getting killed in that area since the first puck was ever dropped.

We were fortunate to get a huge penalty called on Brown. I'll take the 5 minute major even though IMHO, there was no penalty there.

Could you call it a late hit? MAYBE. Could you call it interference? Maybe. And the flip side to that coin is that some refs may not have called anything there.

I think it was a gift and I'll take it. I'm glad the league didn't suspend Brown b/c IMO that is just a hard, vicious, clean check (didn't leave feet, elbow tucked in) on a stupid Hudler who decided it was a good idea to admire his pass through the neutral zone.

unbelievable! don cherry called it a cheap shot. and i totally agreed about how it was ridiculous that no one at least got in browns face. i was pissed as hell that no one went over to him. like cherry said, i dont expect someone to fight brown necessarily considering who was on the ice but at least go get in his face.
